Some claim that DJ Disk, a member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, was the first to coin the term, others claim that DJ Babu, a member of the Beat Junkies, was responsible for coining and spreading the term turntablist after inscribing it on his mixtapes and passing them around.

The decade of the 1990s is also important in shaping the turntablist art form and culture as it saw the emergence of pioneering artists ( Mix Master Mike, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Quest, DJ Krush, A-Trak, Ricci Rucker, Mike Boo, Pumpin ' Pete, Prime Cuts ) and crews ( Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkies, The Allies, X-Ecutioners ), record labels ( Asphodel ), DJ Battles ( DMC ) and the evolution of scratching and other turntablism practices.

Mix Master Mike was a founding member of the influential turntablist group Invisibl Skratch Piklz and currently DJs for the Beastie Boys.

Both albums featured members of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz.

The first single from the album, " Itch U Can't Skratch ," is currently available in Japan and Denmark.

From late 1996 to early 1997, Cut Chemist recorded his album debut, Live at Future Primitive Sound Session, with Shortkut of Invisibl Skratch Piklz.

Kwestion ( or Kwes ) is also a part of the group Skratch Makaniks.

The M44-7 and M44-7-H cartridges are renowned for their tracking and skip resistance, which has made them a popular choice of turntablists, including turntablism pioneers The Invisibl Skratch Piklz.

It contains seven live tracks in a continuous DJ mix by DJ Q-Bert of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz.

Mix Master Mike and DJ Qbert subsequently founded the turntablist group, The Invisibl Skratch Piklz with DJ Apollo.

This was in his dad's studio, at publishing company Skratch Music.

On May 25, 2001 with Know Your Enemies, the IWS began putting on shows at Le Skratch in Chomedey, Laval.

Le Skratch would be the home base of the IWS for the next two years.

In 2003, the IWS held Body Count on May 17, 2003 and The last show at Le Skratch was Season's Beatings held on December 13, 2003.

In November 2010, KNXX added Skratch ' N Sniff which airs Saturday nights from 10PM-Midnight, and a live concert series, which they call " X-In-Concert " that aired Sunday nights at 8PM.

Several of Scratch ’ s most exciting scenes involve artists playing with one another: Mix Master Mike ( perhaps most famous for his work with the Beastie Boys, and also a member of Invisibl Skratch Piklz ) and the popular Filipino DJ Qbert ( also of Invisibl Skratch Piklz ); Shadow and Cut Chemist working with Steinski ; and Jurassic 5 on stage with Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark ( who says of working with these pioneering MCs, " It's fun, but it's always a challenge ").
