Steeped in the jazz tradition ( having studied and performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, David Murray and Donald Byrd among others ), Cepeda developed this unique artistic expression by incorporating a contemporary jazz perspective with the musical and cultural traditions of his homeland, Puerto Rico.

Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus ( 251 – 183 BC ), specifically Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus and Mostellaria, the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.

Along with Mostel, the musical featured a cast of seasoned performers, including Jack Gilford ( Mostel's friend and fellow blacklist member ), David Burns, John Carradine, Ruth Kobart and Raymond Walburn.

The show won several Tony Awards: best musical, best actor, best supporting actor ( Burns ), best book, and best director.

The musical was also revived with great success in 1996, starring Nathan Lane as Pseudolus ( replaced later in the run by Whoopi Goldberg and also by David Alan Grier ), Mark Linn-Baker as Hysterium, Ernie Sabella as Lycus, Jim Stanek as Hero, Lewis J. Stadlen as Senex, and Cris Groenendaal as Miles Gloriosus.

Göran Bror Benny Andersson () ( born 16 December 1946 ), known professionally as Benny Andersson, is a Swedish musician, composer, former member of the Swedish musical group ABBA ( 1972 – 1983 ), and co-composer of the musicals Chess, Kristina från Duvemåla, and Mamma Mia !.

), and was executive producer for the film version of the musical Mamma Mia !.

Andersson's next project was Mamma Mia !, a musical built around 24 of ABBA's songs, which has become a worldwide box-office blockbuster with versions in several languages currently being played in many countries, including the UK ( West End premiere in April 1999 ), Canada ( Toronto premiere in 2000 ), the USA ( Broadway premiere in 2001 ), and Sweden ( Swedish language premiere in 2005 ).

Together with Ulvaeus, Andersson was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in a category " Outstanding Music " ( for the musical Chess ), and for a Tony Award in a category " Best Orchestrations " ( for musical Mamma Mia !).

The resulting fight between the townsfolk and Lamarr's army of thugs breaks the fourth wall, quite literally ; the fight spills out from the Warner Bros. film lot into a neighboring musical set being directed by Buddy Bizarre ( Dom DeLuise ), then into the studio commissary, where a pie fight ensues.

All three loanwords are the musical instruments: κιθαρις ( cithara ), ψαλτηριον ( psaltery ) and συμφωνια ( symphonia ).
