were, much like New York's Suicide, forerunners of later 1980s techno-pop duos, such as the Pet Shop Boys and Soft Cell, in that the singer ( in this case Gabi ) appears relatively extroverted while the one who plays with the electronics ( Robert ) appears quiet and reserved.

After the breakthrough of Tubeway Army and Gary Numan in the British Singles Chart, large numbers of artists began to enjoy success with a synthesizer-based sound in the early 1980s, including Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Japan and Depeche Mode in the United Kingdom, while in Japan, Yellow Magic Orchestra's success opened the way for synthpop bands such as P-Model, Plastics, and Hikashu.

The New Romantic scene had developed in the London nightclubs Billy's and The Blitz and was associated with bands such as Duran Duran, Japan, Ultravox, Visage, Adam and the Ants, Bow Wow Wow, Soft Cell, Spandau Ballet, ABC and Culture Club.

Synthpop reached its commercial peak in the UK in the winter of 1981 – 2, with bands such as Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Japan, Ultravox, Depeche Mode and even Kraftwerk, enjoying top ten hits.

The proliferation of acts led to an anti-synth backlash, with groups including Spandau Ballet, Human League, Soft Cell and ABC incorporating more conventional influences and instruments into their sounds.

Soft Cell, Dexys Midnight Runners, Right Said Fred, Baha Men, a-ha, and Vanilla Ice have had multiple hits in the UK and would therefore not qualify as one-hit wonders.

" During her teenage years, she began listening to new wave and synthpop bands such as Soft Cell, Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet though later stated that it was phase when she was " having a bit of a rebellion against my parents ' record collection.

Among others, Steve Albini ( Shellac, Rapeman, Big Black ), Panthére, Gang Gang Dance, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Sisters of Mercy, She Wants Revenge, Henry Rollins, Joy Division / New Order, Soft Cell, Nick Cave, Cassandra Complex, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Radiohead, Kap Bambino, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Angel Corpus Christi ( covers of Dream Baby Dream and Cheree with Alan Vega guest vocals ), Michael Gira, MGMT, Sonic Boom, Loop, The Fleshtones ( both of whom have recorded cover versions of " Rocket USA "), Ric Ocasek of The Cars, Mi Ami, R. E. M.

Soft Cell are an English synthpop duo who came to prominence in the early 1980s.

Soft Cell was initiated during 1978 after Almond and Ball met at Leeds Polytechnic.

While " Memorabilia " was a success in nightclubs, Soft Cell remained essentially unknown.

After the chart failure of " Memorabilia ", Phonogram Records allowed Soft Cell to record a second and final single in an attempt to score a chart success.

According to Marc Almond's book Tainted Life, Soft Cell had exited the " Tainted Love " recording sessions with only modest expectations that the track might break into the UK Top 50.

However, as Soft Cell wrote neither " Tainted Love " nor " Where Did Our Love Go " ( the 7 " B-side track ), they lost the opportunity to make a greater sum of money from songwriting royalties stemming from one of the most popular songs of the 1980s.

The duo's first album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, hit UK No. 5 and further explored the now-trademark Soft Cell themes of squalour and sleaze.

Soon after " Say Hello Wave Goodbye " dropped out of the chart, Soft Cell released a brand new song, another love song / ballad called " Torch " which was to prove the closest the band ever got to having a number one hit with one of their own songs as it entered straight into the top ten and peaked at number 2.

Marc Almond also formed the group Marc and the Mambas, featuring collaborations with The The's Matt Johnson and future Almond collaborator Annie Hogan, as an offshoot in order to experiment out of the glare of the Soft Cell spotlight.

By 1984, the duo had amicably decided to end Soft Cell.

However, the controversial subject matter still remained true to the Soft Cell ethos, with songs such as " L ' Esqualita " that glamourized transvestite culture in Manhattan.

Almond and Ball reunited as Soft Cell in 2001, with a series of live dates.

Many of the British musicians and bands that had embraced psychedelia went on to create progressive rock in the 1970s, including Pink Floyd, Soft Machine and members of Yes.

The album was written and performed by Prince, except for the song " Soft and Wet " which had lyrics co-written by Moon.

Soft Cell had considered recording " The Night " in place of " Tainted Love " during 1981 as their frantic attempt to score a chart success.

The Shangri-Las were imitated by groups like The Nu-Luvs, who had a hit with " So Soft, So Warm ", which was originally recorded by The Shangri-Las as " Dressed In Black " and used as the b-side to Jay and the Americans ' original, " He Cried ".

On July 23, 2003, Hudson Soft announced it had started its North American mobile phone Java game service, GameMaster, for AT & T's mMode, effective on July 28, 2003.

Hudson Soft had released video games since 1978, with series such as Bomberman, Bonk, and Adventure Island.

On their 1975 album Bundles, a significant musical change occurred with fusion guitarist Allan Holdsworth adding guitar as a very prominent melody instrument to the band's sound, sometimes reminiscent of John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, setting the album apart from previous Soft Machine releases, which had rarely featured guitars.

Robert Wyatt provided his eerie Wyattron in the poignant ' Cold Shoulder ', Phil Manzanera contributed to the brooding ' Brainstorm ', Hugh Hopper from Soft Machine played bass on the title track and Bridget St. John, a British Folk singer beloved of John Peel, duetted with Ayers on ' Baby Come Home ', the first time they had sung together since 1970 on Shooting at the Moon.

( visiting Ireland, UK, Belgium, Holland, Germany and US ), Wood injured his back and had to be temporarily replaced by Tom White of Electric Soft Parade and Brakes.

One track on the album, a cover of The Soft Boys ' " I Wanna Destroy You ", features backing vocals from pop singer / songwriter Deborah Gibson, who had just wrapped up a solo album with the same producer the Circle Jerks were using.

According to the Niven story The Soft Weapon, Pierson was a crewman aboard a spaceship at a time when there was a camp revival of the ancient Time for Beany TV show featuring Cecil the Sea-Sick Sea Serpent, an animated character based on a hand puppet ; Pierson accordingly described the alien he had met as a Puppeteer, given some resemblance of the head and neck with Cecil.

Before the change to Soft Rock, this station had a short successful CHR / Urban format under the WVKO-FM branding.

Neither of which the games original artist / writer Sei Shoujo was involved with as he had left Active Soft by this time.

The SVX edition was available as a 110 Station Wagon ( only available outside the UK ), a 90 Station Wagon and a brand-new design of 90 Soft Top-the first time a Soft Top model had been available through showrooms in the UK since 1992.
