In 1905, after Henry Chadwick wrote an article saying that baseball grew from the British sports of cricket and rounders, Spalding called for a commission to find out the real source of baseball.

Receiving the archives of Henry Chadwick in 1908, Spalding combined these records with his own memories ( and biases ) to write America's National Game ( published 1911 ) which, despite its flaws, was probably the first scholarly account of the history of baseball.

In the area of religion and theology, Dartmouth alumni include priests and ministers Ebenezer Porter, Jonathan Clarkson Gibbs, Caleb Sprague Henry, Arthur Whipple Jenks, Solomon Spalding, and Joseph Tracy ; and rabbis Marshall Meyer, Arnold Resnicoff, and David E. Stern.

In 1836, Henry H. Spalding and Marcus Whitman traveled west to establish the Whitman Mission near modern day Walla Walla, Washington.

Henry Spalding, and their wives crossed the Rockies, Eliza Hart Spalding and Narcissa Whitman being the first white American women in Oregon Country.

It was also claimed by anti-catholic ministers, including Henry Spalding, that Roman Catholic priests may have told the Cayuse that Whitman was the cause of the disease and incited the Cayuse to attack.

A grant of land at Spalding was made to Sir William Ayscough ( 1490 – 1541 ) by Henry VIII.

Henry Harmon Spalding ( 1803 – 1874 ), and his wife Eliza Hart Spalding ( 1807 – 1851 ) were prominent Presbyterian missionaries and educators working primarily with the Nez Perce in the U. S. Pacific Northwest.

Henry Spalding was born in Bath, New York, in either 1803 or 1804.

In 1908 sold the mill and bought the H. M. Spalding Electric Light Plant in Concordia, Kansas.
