Dyce is the site of an early medieval church dedicated to the 8th century missionary and bishop St. Fergus, otherwise associated with Glamis, Angus.

Today the cemetery, north of the airport, and overlooking the River Don, hosts the roofless but otherwise virtually complete former St. Fergus Chapel, within which Pictish and early Christian stones from the 7th – 9th centuries, found in or around the churchyard, are displayed ( Historic Scotland ; open at all times without entrance charge ).

The field supplies oil via the Brent System pipeline to the terminal at Sullom Voe, while gas is piped through the FLAGS pipeline ashore at St Fergus on the north east coast of Scotland.

Gas is exported to St Fergus, Scotland via the SAGE pipeline system and oil is exported via the Forties system.

Denis Ryan moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia and became an investment banker and businessman while Fergus O ' Byrne and Dermot O ' Reilly remained in St. John's.

Fergus can be seen performing weekly on George Street at O ' Reilly's Pub in St. John's.

Knock Fergus may have been a reference to the large numbers of Irish residents there then, but the name is old-it is found in the St. Dunstan Stepney registers in the early 1600s.

In 1982 opened St Fergus Gas Plant, which receives and processes around 15 % of the United Kingdom gas demand from some 20 fields, is owned and operated by Total.
