In the early 1980s Alvin, along with fellow Blasters members Bill Bateman and Steve Berlin, performed on several albums with the Los Angeles punk band The Flesh Eaters.

His first solo album, Kerosene Man, included a duet with Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde, backing work by bassist Fernando Saunders ( a frequent sideman of Lou Reed, to whom Wynn was often compared early in his career ), drummer D. J. Bonebrake from the L. A. punk band X, Howe Gelb of Giant Sand and saxophonist Steve Berlin from Los Lobos.

He has worked with such legendary producers as Clive Gregson ( for his album Blue Line, 1989 ), and Steve Berlin of Los Lobos ( for The Assassin ’ s Apprentice from 1994 which also featured fellow Canadian Sarah McLachlan ).

The first album, Tales of the New West, was produced by Blasters / Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin and released in January, 1985.

The band formed after Steve Naghavi and Chris Ruiz met in 1989 at a Berlin club.

Live, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs usually consisted of Top Jimmy ( James Paul Koncek ): vocals, Carlos Guitarlos: guitar and vocals, Gil T .: bass and vocals, Dig The Pig: guitar, Joey Morales: drums and either Tom Fabre or Steve Berlin on saxophone.

For fifteen years, Wolfe was sole publisher of Tombouctou Books, a small press enterprise located in Bolinas, California, that published works of poetry and avant garde prose, including The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll, two books of fiction by the Moroccan storyteller Mohammed Mrabet, and American fiction by Douglas Woolf, Dale Herd, Lucia Berlin, Bobbie Louise Hawkins, Steve Emerson, and Paul Bowles's final collection of short stories, Unwelcome Words: Seven Stories.

In 2002 Scruggs won a second Grammy award for the 2001 recording of " Foggy Mountain Breakdown ", which featured artists such as Steve Martin on 2nd banjo solo ( Martin played the banjo tune on his 1970s stand-up comic acts ), Vince Gill and Albert Lee on electric guitar solos, Paul Shaffer on piano, Leon Russell on organ, and Marty Stuart on mandolin.

The album features such jazz and fusion luminaries as guitarists Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour ; bassist Chuck Rainey ; saxophonists Wayne Shorter, Pete Christlieb, and Tom Scott ; drummers Steve Gadd and Bernard Purdie ; ex-Miles Davis pianist / vibraphonist Victor Feldman and Grammy award-winning producer / arranger Michael Omartian on piano.

This release earned Grammy Award nominations for boxed-set producer Steve Greenberg in the Best Historical Album category and for writer Rob Bowman in the Best Album Notes category.

Their second album Communiqué ( 1979 ) made the Top 20 in many countries and earned another gold record award in the U. S. WBR also enjoyed renewed success with comedy recordings in this period, transferring Richard Pryor from Reprise and signing rising star Steve Martin, whose second Warner album A Wild and Crazy Guy ( 1978 ) became one of the label's biggest comedy hits — it reached # 2 on the pop album chart, won the 1979 Grammy for ' Best Comedy Album ', and Martin's novelty single " King Tut " was a US Top 20 hit.
