He had a recurring role as " Bill Church Jr ." based upon the character of Moxie Mannheim's son ( Bruno Mannheim ) from the Superman comics on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

In the early Adventures of Superman radio episodes, Kal-El landed on Earth as an adult.

Clark Kent's character is given one of its heaviest emphases in the 1990s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

His written works include The totalitarian nightmare ( 1975 ), The lunacy of the Superman ( 1977 ), Adventures in the country of the monoliths ( 1981 ) and Freedom: my dream ( 1986 ).

John Shea portrayed Lex Luthor in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman as a charming and debonair philanthropist and polymath, the owner of the massive LexCorp.

He has also been voiced in animation by Jackson Beck in the 1960s series The New Adventures of Superman, Stan Jones in the 1970s / 1980s Super Friends franchise, Michael Bell in the 1988 Superman animated series, and by Clancy Brown in the 1990s / 2000s DC animated universe, as well as a 2007 episode of The Batman and the 2009 direct-to-DVD animated feature Superman / Batman: Public Enemies, among others.

In the pilot episode of the 1950s television program Adventures of Superman Jor-El, portrayed by Robert Rockwell, was Krypton's leading scientist, who tried to warn the ruling council of Krypton's demise.

The version of Krypton portrayed in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was similar to the version in Superman: The Movie.

There was a reference that Jim Henson tried to sneak into Heaven only for him and Kermit the Frog to end up in a flat rectangle prison ( similar to General Zod in Superman II ) as Kermit begs for them to be released.

He is also set to portray Superman's biological father Jor-El in the Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot, Man of Steel, set to be released in the summer of 2013.

When the inhabitants of the colony are slain by Green Kryptonite, which was released by meteorites striking the lead barrier, Kara is sent to Earth by her father Zor-El to be raised by her cousin Kal-El ( Superman ).

Superman / Batman: Apocalypse, a direct-to-video animated film released in September 2010, largely parallels the origin-story arc launched in the Superman / Batman comic series in 2004, with some minor plot differences.

In 2011, it was announced that Lane would play Martha Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman film Man of Steel that will be released in theaters on June 14, 2013.

In that storyline, Superman was coming to terms with the death of his adoptive father ; he was also dealing with 100, 000 Kryptonians now living on Earth, which he had released from the bottled cities on Brainiac's ship ( the same ship that contained the lost Kryptonian city of Kandor ).

** The Man of Steel ( comics ), a six-issue comic book limited series about Superman released in 1986 by DC Comics

A no-flexibility attitude from both Brando and Donner saw both removed from the series until 2006 when Donner's definitive ( or at least, as close to definitive as possible ) version of the movie, simply titled Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut was released on November 28, 2006 on the same date as the DVD release of the summer hit, Superman Returns.

A ' Superman ' gift set ( GS21 ) was also released featuring a ' Supermobile ', the ' Daily Planet ' helicopter and a Buick Regal police car, as well as a ' Spider-Man ' gift set ( GS23 ) consisting of the ' Spiderbuggy ', the ' Spidercopter ' and the ' Spidervan '.

* A Superman DVD set was released in a case resembling a tin lunch box, albeit notably smaller.

The 2004 limited series Superman: Birthright has a young Clark Kent study the Meisner technique to move seamlessly between his Clark and Superman personas ( dropping his head, lowering his shoulders, and talking in a lighter tone as Clark Kent, while standing straight and talking in a deeper tone as Superman ).

The 2004 series Superman: Birthright also explained that Superman's eyes are an inhumanly vivid shade of blue, which Clark's glasses diffuse to make his eyes appear more human.

Superman: Birthright, a limited series written by Mark Waid in 2004, offers an alternate look at Luthor's history, including his youth in Smallville, and his first encounter with Superman.

In the 2004 mini-series Superman: Birthright, a new retelling of Superman's origin and early years, Mark Waid depicted a Krypton, officially stated as being located in the Andromeda Galaxy 2. 5 million light-years away, with elements of various versions of the planet, but closer to the pre-Crisis version.

McQuickly and Nasty had cameos in the 2004 graphic novel, Superman: True Brit, co-written by John Cleese.

He has a cameo appearance in several films: Around the World in 80 Days ( 2004 ), where he played a hot-air balloon operator ; Superman Returns, where he was credited as a ' Shuttle Engineer ' and appeared alongside his son, Sam, with a Virgin Galactic-style commercial suborbital shuttle at the centre of his storyline.

Following the cancellation of the third Supergirl comic book series, starring the Linda Danvers version of the character, a modern version of Kara Zor-El was reintroduced into the DC Comics continuity in issue # 8 of the Superman / Batman comic book series titled " The Supergirl from Krypton " ( 2004 ).

* In the 2004 Superman storyline " For Tomorrow ", a story with strong messianic themes, a priest dying of cancer ( and a confidant of Superman ) is transformed into a biological war machine, codenamed " Pilate ", and rampages through a paradise dimension created by Superman.

* Christopher Reeve ( 1952 – 2004 ), of Superman fame, kept a sailboat, the sloop-rigged Chandelle, at a Fairhaven shipyard and sometimes flew into New Bedford Regional Airport to pick it up or to stay in town during a stopover en route to Martha's Vineyard.

In the 2004 graphic novel, Trinity mini-series, by Matt Wagner, Bizarro is a genetic clone of Superman that is the result of Luthorcorp's " Project Replica ".

Several alternate universe versions of the character exist: the Silver Age Bizarro appears in Justice as a member of the Legion of Doom ; one-shot The Superman Monster ( 1999 ), essentially a Frankenstein pastiche features a monstrous copy of Bizarro created by a Viktor Luthor ; one-shot Superman: Red Son ( 2004 ) features a " Superman 2 " created by genius Lex Luthor for the United States to stop the Soviet-based Superman ; and Lex Luthor creates Bizarro-like duplicates called " Liberators " in the limited series JLA: The Nail ( 1998 ).

The term remake applies to films which use a previous film as its main source material, often reusing the same storyline while updating times and places to match contemporary settings, such as 1998's A Perfect Murder or 2001's Ocean's Eleven, whereas the term reboot is ascribed to film series such as Police Story ( rebooted in the 2004 film New Police Story ), Batman ( 2005's Batman Begins ), James Bond ( 2006's Casino Royale ), Star Trek ( the 2009 Star Trek film-though still in the existing Star Trek canon, but in an alternate universe ), Spider-Man ( 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man ), and Superman ( 2013's Man of Steel ).
