A notable example is Emanuel Swedenborg who wrote some 18 theological works which describe in detail the nature of the afterlife according to his claimed spiritual experiences, the most famous of which is Heaven and Hell.
The modern rediscovery of CSF is now credited to Emanuel Swedenborg.

Moreover, a person could use some knowledge of correspondences to twist what the Word actually taught if he was not bound at all to the literal sense ; and so, Swedenborg writes, a church's doctrines must be founded on the literal sense of the Word, and correspondences must only be used to illustrate and confirm what has already been learned from the literal sense.

Swedenborg and Coming
That Judgement was followed by the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, which occurred, not by Christ in person, but by a revelation from Him through the inner, spiritual sense of the Word to Swedenborg.

The man told Swedenborg that He was the Lord, that He had appointed Swedenborg to reveal the spiritual meaning of the Bible, and that He would guide Swedenborg in what to write.
Most notably, many of these witnesses describe encountering a supreme Being of Light, or a light at the end of a tunnel, which Swedenborg had also described as the Sun of heaven in which the Lord resided .< ref > Swedenborg, Emanuel.
According to Swedenborg the Athanasian Creed is true, however, if by a trinity is understood to mean a trinity in one person and that person is in the Lord God Jesus Christ.
Swedenborg was merely an instrument of the Lord, as he himself stated.

Swedenborg and New
Bryn Athyn is also the site of the General Church affiliated Academy of the New Church, which is the parent organization of the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools, Bryn Athyn College, a divinity school, and the Swedenborg Library ( which was named in honor of Emanuel Swedenborg ).
He was also a missionary for The New Church, or Swedenborgian Church, so named because it teaches the theological doctrines contained in the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg.
