The release of the Syntopicon and the Great Books of the Western World was covered in the New York Herald, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Time magazine, the Chicago Tribune and local papers across the country.

Full page ads for Time magazine appeared in newspapers across the country, saying “ What and Why is a Syntopicon ?” Time published an article about the new, pivotal piece of reference material, and Adler wrote them back in thanks, saying that “ I think the piece is both thoroughly accurate and very lively, which, considering the subject matter, is quite a feat .”

A Syntopicon: An Index to The Great Ideas ( 1952 ) is a two-volume index, published as volumes 2 and 3 of Encyclopædia Britannica ’ s collection Great Books of the Western World.

In addition to being a “ special idea ” that would set Great Books of the Western World apart, the Syntopicon serves four other purposes, outlined in its preface.

Despite the extensive press coverage and cross-country speeches, however, sales of the Syntopicon and the Great Books of the Western World were slow.

Lindow Man, also known as Lindow II and ( in jest ) as Pete Marsh, is the preserved bog body of a man discovered in a peat bog at Lindow Moss near Wilmslow in Cheshire, North West England.

Lindow Man's official name is Lindow II, as there are other finds from the area: Lindow I ( Lindow Woman ) refers to a human skull, Lindow III to a " fragmented headless body ", and Lindow IV to the upper thigh of an adult male, possibly that of Lindow Man.

Time magazine in the USA named Brandt as its Man of the Year for 1970, stating, " Willy Brandt is in effect seeking to end World War II by bringing about a fresh relationship between East and West.
