Taxi is an American sitcom that originally aired from 1978 to 1982 on ABC and from 1982 to 1983 on NBC.

Ted Danson appeared as a hairdresser in " The Unkindest Cut ", the 1982 episode of the television series Taxi ; Glen and Les Charles, creators of then-upcoming television series Cheers along with James Burrows, were executive consultants for that episode.

Smith appeared in a 1982 Episode of Taxi ( Season 4 Episode 19 ) where Smith's character played a football player trying to get back into the NFL after being cut.

With Diller at the helm, the studio produced hit television programs such as Laverne & Shirley ( 1976 ), Taxi ( 1978 ), and Cheers ( 1982 ) and films that include Saturday Night Fever ( 1977 ), Grease ( 1978 ), Raiders of the Lost Ark ( 1981 ) and sequel Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ( 1984 ), Terms of Endearment ( 1983 ), and Beverly Hills Cop ( 1984 ).

In recent years, they have produced several new Jamaican artists for their Taxi label, as well as confirmed superstars such as Elephant Man and Buju Banton, for whom they re-used their 1982 instrumental song " Unmetered Taxi " for the number one hit " Driver A ".
