The programme works so well that the boundaries of the forest, as mapped by satellite imagery, are expanding, and the success of the idea has led to another sister project in Cameroon, the Bamenda Highlands Forest Project.

In 1985, the CNU was transformed into the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, in Bamenda the political capital of the north west region and Biya was elected as its President.

The SDF was launched in Bamenda on May 26, 1990 in opposition to the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement ; following the launching rally, six people were killed by security forces.

This suit was registered with the Bamenda High Court in the Northwest region of Cameroon as case number HCB28 / 92.

However, the plaintiff, Fon Gorji-Dinka maintains that the Bamenda High Court reached a decision according to which the court among other things held that "( b ) President Paul Biya is guilty of treason for furthering and completing the treason of Ahidjo by bringing about the secession of the first defendant ( East Cameroon ) from the United Republic of Cameroon on February 4, 1984, reinstating its name " Republic of Cameroon " which had not been used since January 10, 1961.

Fru Ndi was born in Baba II, near Bamenda in the Northwest Province of Cameroon.

Bamenda, also known as Abakwa and Mankon Town, is a city in northwestern Cameroon and capital of the North West Province.

Bamenda is the seat of the largest opposition political party in Cameroon, the Social Democratic Front ( SDF ), and the home of its leader, John Fru Ndi.

The SCNC was born in Bamenda in 1994, after the All Anglophone Conference ( AAC2 ) issued the Bamenda " Declaration " in which it had asked the government of President Paul Biya to respond to all anglophone grievances stated in the Buea Declaration of 1993 or face the wrath of the people of the Southern Cameroons. The Cameroon government failed to respond to the Bamenda Declaration and since then, the SCNC has categorically maintained that it now considers the restoration of the independence of the Southern Cameroons to be final and irrevocable.

The University of Buea was the only Anglo-Saxon style university ; but presently with the establishment of the University of Bamenda which went operational in 2011, Cameroon has two English Universities.

Bafut is a town and commune in Cameroon in the Northwest Province, to the North of the city of Bamenda.

Bali is a town and commune in Cameroon, lying west of Bamenda.

Achidi Achu was born in Bamenda and grew up in Santa, located in the Northwest Province of Cameroon.

Mankon is a geo-historic community constituting a large part of Bamenda in Cameroon, formed as an amalgamation of about five different ethnic groups.

Bamenda is also the birth place of The Southern Cameroons National Council ( SCNC ), a group that has been asking for the restoration of the former British Southern Cameroons, a territory that covers the English-speaking provinces of North West and South West.

Southern Cameroons was divided in 1949 into two provinces: Bamenda ( capital Bamenda, hence also thus named ) and Southern ( capital Buea ).

Bamenda is known for its cool climate and scenic hilly location.

The larger, northern portion of the basin is bounded within Chad by the Tibesti Mountains in the northwest, the Ennedi Plateau in the northeast, the Ouaddaï Highlands in the east along the border with Sudan, the Guéra Massif in central Chad, and the Mandara Mountains along Chad's southwestern border with Cameroon.

This area of tropical forest has been categorised by the World Wildlife Fund as the Cameroonian Highlands forests ecoregion with Mount Cameroon considered separately because as an active volcano it has a distinct environment from the other mountains.

There are disjunct areas in Africa including the Ethiopian Highlands, the mountains of Ruwenzori and the Cameroon mountains.

In Subsaharan Africa, laurel forests are found in the Cameroon Highlands forests along the border of Nigeria and Cameroon, along the East African Highlands, a long chain of mountains extending from the Ethiopian Highlands around the African Great Lakes to South Africa, in the Highlands of Madagascar, and in the montane zone of the São Tomé, Príncipe, and Annobón moist lowland forests.

Stories of banshees were also prevalent in the West Highlands of Scotland.

East of the lake, the basin rises gradually to the Ouaddaï Highlands, which mark Chad's eastern border and also divide the Chad and Nile watersheds.

The native Montagnards of Vietnam's Central Highlands were also known to have used crossbows, as both a tool for hunting, and later, an effective weapon against the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.

Service in the Army was also attractive to young men from Highlands, who sent pay home and retired there with their army pensions, but the prosperity ended after 1815, and long-run negative factors began to undermine the economic position of the crofters.

The Lesotho Highlands Water Project allows exporting water from the Malibamatso, Matsoku, Senqu and Senqunyane rivers to South Africa, while also generating hydroelectric power for Lesotho's needs.

The most weight has been given to connecting the district centres, but the roads within central Lesotho have also been improved, as part of the construction needs of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

On a visit to the Highlands, Edward overstays his leave and is arrested and charged with desertion but is rescued by the Highland chieftain Fergus MacIvor and his mesmerizing sister Flora, whose devotion to the Stuart cause, " as it exceeded her brother's in fanaticism, excelled it also in purity ".

Shetland is also home to the North Atlantic Fisheries College, the Centre for Nordic Studies and Shetland College, which are all associated with the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The rift also encompasses the Crater Highlands, which includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Before 1975, North Vietnam had maintained that the Central Highlands and the Giai Truong Son were strategic areas of paramount importance, essential to the domination not only of South Vietnam but also of the southern part of Indochina.

It noted that "… a post be also taken in the Highlands on each side of Hudson ’ s River and batteries erected in such a manner as will most effectually prevent any vessels passing that may be sent to harass the inhabitants on the borders of said river …"

There are also recorded oral histories that recall some Plains aborigines were sometimes captured and killed by Highlands tribes while relocating through the mountains ( Yeh 2003 ).

In the Scottish Highlands, people made a special cake called the lunastain, which was also called luinean when given to a man and luineag when given to a woman.

It was also pointed out that large numbers of Catholics, recruited in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, were already serving in the military.

Children in Elk County are also served by Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit Nine.

Allamuchy Mountain and Jenny Jump Mountain are part of the New York – New Jersey Highlands, also known as the Reading Prong.

The northeastern portion of the county, in the Locust neighborhood of Middletown Township and the boroughs of Highlands and Atlantic Highlands, are also very hilly.

There are also two private elementary schools in Mountain Brook: Highlands School, on Old Leeds Road in Cherokee Bend, and N. E. Miles Jewish Day School on Montclair Road.

The development of the Highlands also brought an influx of new residents to the Haskell community.

William's position as Master Mason to the Board of Ordnance also began to generate much work, as the Highlands were fortified following the failed Jacobite revolt.

Several miles of less affluent areas within the District of Columbia ( see Anacostia, Washington Highlands, and Bellevue ) also lie to the north of it.

Tarentum is within the Highlands School District, which operates Grandview Upper Elementary School ( grades 3 – 5 ) in the borough ; also Fawn and Fairmount primary centers ( grades K – 2 ), Highlands Middle School ( grades 6 – 8 ), and Highlands High School ( grades 9 – 12 ) in nearby communities.
