Mountaineers Books was informally started in 1955 when a volunteer committee was formed to create a mountaineering training text from the materials that the Club was using for its classes.

The outer ring contains the text " State of West Virginia " and the state's motto " Montani Semper Liberi ", (" Mountaineers are Always Free "; the state nickname is " the Mountain State ").

Montani Semper Liberi ( Latin for " Mountaineers are Always Free ") is the official motto of the state of West Virginia, USA.

The book grew out of the annual climbing course run since 1935 by the Mountaineers, for which the reading material was originally a combination of European works and lecturers ' mimeo outlines.

The Coastal passage according to Rocky Mountaineers website will operate to and from the Pacific Central Station this will only be applied for the route section between Vancouver and Seattle while the rest of the route like other Rocky Mountaineer domestic routes will operate out of the Rocky Mountaineer Station.
