* Steyr Scout, rifle

The Scout is a modern scoped bolt-action rifle manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher and chambered primarily for 7. 62 NATO (. 308 Winchester ), although other chamberings are offered commercially.

The Steyr Scout is also available in 5. 56 NATO (. 223 Remington ),. 243 Winchester,. 376 Steyr and 7mm-08 Remington.

There were early reports of problems with the Steyr Scout rifle relating to breakage of the bipod pivot pin.

A variant and effectively the successor of the Scout is the Steyr Elite ( previously known as the Steyr Tactical Elite ), a more robustly constructed model with many of the same features of the Scout, but designed primarily for the law enforcement market for an urban tactical role.

Swiss Arms of Switzerland produces the SIG SG 550 assault rifle used by France, Chile, and Spain among others, and Steyr Mannlicher produces the AUG, a bullpup rifle in use in Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Saudi Arabia among other nations.

The Steyr AUG was one of the first bullpup rifles to enter widespread use.

During World War II, when Austria was part of the Third Reich, Steyr-Daimler-Puch's Generaldirektor Georg Meindl became one of the first German industrialists to suggest the use of slave labour from concentration camps to boost manpower at Steyr.

The vehicle range was for military use, including the Steyr RSO Raupenschlepper Ost with an air-cooled 3. 5 L V8 engine designed by Ferdinand Porsche, who worked for the company at that time.

The earliest Steyr Mannlicher pistol, manufactured by FAB. D ' ARMES Neuhausen, Switzerland, was designed to be self loading and to use a special rimmed cartridge in 6. 5 mm caliber.

European rifle makers including Sauer, Blaser, CZ, Steyr and Mauser offer sporting rifles chambered for this cartridge, as does the Finnish arms manufacturer SAKO / Tikka, while ammunition manufacturers such as Norma, Lapua, Prvi Partizan and Hornady offer loadings of the 6. 5 × 55mm round that are designed for use only in modern hunting rifles that can tolerate higher chamber pressures.

Depending on the situation, they also use the 9mm Steyr TMP machine pistol ( another Austrian weapon ), the Franchi SPAS-12, the Heckler & Koch M512 shotgun, the Remington 870, the MP5A3, the Heckler & Koch MP7, the Glock 18 machine pistol or the MZP-1 40 mm grenade launcher.

It also designs and engineers cars which are manufactured by Magna Steyr in Austria.

Long called the Carantanian or Carinthian March it was soon ruled by a margravial dynasty called the Otakars that originated from Steyr in Upper Austria thus giving the land its name: " Steiermark ".

Certain designs, such as the FAMAS assault rifle, the Steyr AUG and the Israeli Tavor TAR-21, overcome this limitation by allowing the bolt and ejection port cover to be swapped, turning the weapon into a dedicated left-handed version.

Though the Heckler & Koch VP70 was the first polymer-framed pistol and predates the Glock 17 by 12 years, the popularity of Glock pistols inspired other manufacturers to begin production of similar polymer-framed firearms, including the Walther P99, Smith & Wesson Sigma, HS2000 ( Springfield Armory XD ), Steyr M, Taurus PT 24 / 7, Caracal, FN Herstal FNP and Ruger SR9 pistols.

The convertible ( cabriolet ) version was manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr until 2010, when it was moved to Trollhättan.

Some of these were German-made by various contractors other than Mauser, including the M1910 Serbian in 7x57mm, M1902 Mexican in 7x57mm, M1903 Turkish in 7. 65x53mm, M1909 Argentine in 7. 65x53mm, Steyr M1912 Chilean in 7x57mm, M1908 Brazilian in 7x57mm, and numerous others.

Although Mannlicher earned his reputation with his bolt action rifle designs, he also produced a few semi-automatic pistols, including the Steyr Mannlicher M1894, which employed an unusual blow-forward action and held five rounds of 6. 5 mm ammunition that were fed into the M1894 by a stripper clip.

In the newly merged company Magna Steyr, he successfully prevented the establishment of works councils, in violation of Austrian labour law by reprimanding workers who were cooperating with unions.

The Steyr IWS 2000 is an Austrian semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle, produced by Steyr Mannlicher.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen ( as it was called from 1979 to 1994 ), short for Geländewagen ( or cross-country vehicle ), is a four-wheel drive vehicle / sport utility vehicle ( SUV ) produced by Steyr-Puch ( now Magna Steyr ) in Austria for German automaker Mercedes-Benz.
