Among Kolchak's awards are the St. George Gold Sword for Bravery given for his actions in the battle of Port Arthur and the Great Gold Constantine Medal from the Russian Geographic Society.

For a very different effect, T. H. White had Merlin transform Arthur into various animals in The Sword in the Stone, as an educational experience.

Popular legends include the stone being the remains of an ancient stone circle that is alleged to have stood on Ludgate Hill and even the stone from which King Arthur withdrew the legendary " Sword in the Stone ".

Arthur, serving as squire to the newly-knighted Kay, is locked out of the house and can't get to his brother's sword and uses the Sword in the Stone to replace it.

Kay appears in the 1963 Walt Disney Studios film adaptation of The Sword in the Stone, in which he is outwardly boorish and bitter but still loves Arthur all the same.

As he did in The Sword in the Stone, Merlyn again demonstrates ethics and politics to Arthur by transforming him into various animals.

This retelling of the popular legend eschews the use of magic ( as in T. H. White ’ s The Sword in the Stone ) to explain Arthur ’ s ascent to power and instead relies on the historical condition ( with some artistic licence ) of post-Roman Britain to support the theory that Arthur was meant to counter the anarchy left by the Roman departure from Britain in 410 AD and the subsequent colonization and invasion of Britain by various peoples from Northwestern Europe, including the Saxons, Jutes, Franks, and Angles.
