Despite his great contributions to early American society, Rush may be more famous today as the man who, in 1812, helped reconcile the friendship of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams by encouraging the two former Presidents to resume writing to each other.

Early members included George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, James McHenry, Thomas Paine, David Rittenhouse, Nicholas Biddle, Owen Biddle, Benjamin Rush, James Madison, Michael Hillegas, John Marshall, and John Andrews.

In addition to children's projects and play, a replica of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello has been constructed with more than 2, 500 bricks of Play-Doh, and, to celebrate Play-Doh's fiftieth anniversary in 2006, a larger-than-life birthday cake with more than 40 pounds of Play-Doh as its main ingredient was " baked " at New York City's American International Toy Fair by Warren Brown, host of Food Network's Sugar Rush.

* In 1965, Berton Roueché described his wonderful trip along the Green River that set out from the Circle S Ranch in Cora, Wyoming in Subletter County with the ranch's foreman Thomas Scholebo.

In fall of 1823, Jedediah Smith and Thomas Fitzpatrick led their trapping crew south from the Yellowstone River to the Sweetwater River.

In a famous letter to Meriwether Lewis in 1803, Thomas Jefferson instructed the Lewis and Clark expedition to " carry with you some matter of the kine-pox ; inform those of them with whom you may be, of its efficacy as a preservative from the smallpox ; & encourage them in the use of it ..." Jefferson had developed an interest in protecting Native Americans from smallpox having been aware of epidemics along the Missouri River during the previous century.

It is named after the Delaware River, which was named in honor of Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, appointed governor of Virginia in 1609.

In 1846 Thomas Fitzpatrick was appointed US Indian agent for the upper Arkansas and Platte River.
