Rafael Tobías Hernández Alvarado ( born August 24, 1953 ), commonly known as " Toby Hernández ", is a former Major League Baseball catcher and right-handed batter who played for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1984.

The fish and the walking stick ( distinctive of the traveler ), are insignias of San Rafael Arcángel, by allusion from the episodes narrated in the book of Tobías in the Old Testament.

Other important characters such as Tobías Enrique Pumarejo and Rafael Escalona never played any instrument, but were important writers of very well known songs across Latin America.

Their baby, Tobías, is the natural son of one of the two men and was born to a surrogate mother ; he thus became the first person in the world with a birth certificate listing two fathers.

As an instrument maker, he improved the reflecting circle ( invented by Tobias Mayer ) and the repeating circle ( invented by his assistant, Etienne Lenoir ), the latter used to measure the meridian arc from Dunkirk to Barcelona by Delambre and Méchain.
