Vapnik – Chervonenkis theory ( also known as VC theory ) was developed during 1960 – 1990 by Vladimir Vapnik and Alexey Chervonenkis.

VC theory is related to statistical learning theory and to empirical processes.

VC theory covers at least four parts ( as explained in The Nature of Statistical Learning Theory ):

In addition, VC theory and VC dimension are instrumental in the theory of empirical processes, in the case of processes indexed by VC classes.

The last part of VC theory introduced a well-known learning algorithm: the support vector machine.

VC theory contains important concepts such as the VC dimension and structural risk minimization.

In statistical learning theory, or sometimes computational learning theory, the VC dimension ( for Vapnik – Chervonenkis dimension ) is a measure of the capacity of a statistical classification algorithm, defined as the cardinality of the largest set of points that the algorithm can shatter.

PNNI also includes a very powerful summarization mechanism to allow construction of very large networks, as well as a call admission control ( CAC ) algorithm which determines the availability of sufficient bandwidth on a proposed route through a network in order to satisfy the service requirements of a VC or VP.

In telecommunications and computer networks, a virtual circuit ( VC ), synonymous with virtual connection and virtual channel, is a connection oriented communication service that is delivered by means of packet mode communication.

Sir Harry Paget Flashman VC KCB KCIE is a fictional character created by George MacDonald Fraser ( 1925 – 2008 ), but based on the character " Flashman " in Tom Brown's Schooldays ( 1857 ), a semi-autobiographical work by Thomas Hughes ( 1822 – 1896 ).

He was played by Stanley Baker in the film Zulu ; Baker owned Chard's VC and Zulu War Medal from 1972 until his death in 1976.

The Sherman VC and IC variants are easily distinguished by their lower hulls ; the VC having a riveted lower hull with a curved shape while the IC has a welded and angled lower hull.
