Following the group's demise, Morrissey began work on a solo recording, collaborating with Strangeways producer Stephen Street and fellow Mancunian Vini Reilly, guitarist for The Durutti Column.

In January 1980 The Return of the Durutti Column was released, the first in a long series of releases by the " band " ( now effectively a solo project for guitarist Vini Reilly ).

Rowbotham was the original member of The Durutti Column and shared the guitar role with Vini Reilly, being one of first musicians signed by the label ; he was killed by an axe murderer and his body found in his flat in Burnage.

The band is an ongoing project of guitarist ( and occasional pianist ) Vini Reilly who is often accompanied by drummer Bruce Mitchell and Keir Stewart ( on bass, keyboards and harmonica ).

Chris Ott summed up Vini Reilly in 2003: " Friend to Ian Curtis and New Order, a borderline New Age celebrity within European muso circles and the creative force behind much of Morrissey's Viva Hate, Vini Reilly has unleashed untold volumes of music over the last twenty-five years.

Delving into modern classical composition with 1984's Without Mercy, his low-key reputation as an independent auteur was cemented with 1989's Vini Reilly, a masterpiece recorded in just twenty days ' time after finishing Viva Hate with Morrissey and Stephen Street.

On 25 January, Vini Reilly, former guitarist for local punk rock band Ed Banger and The Nosebleeds, joined, followed some weeks later by co-member vocalist Phil Rainford and, by the end of February, bassist Tony Bowers arrived from Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias.

Vini Reilly ( 1989 ), also produced by Reilly and Street, features extensive use of sampling, with looped samples of vocalists ( including Otis Redding, Tracy Chapman, Annie Lennox and Joan Sutherland ) used as the basis for several tracks.

The eight albums recorded for Factory ( The Return of the Durutti Column, LC, Another Setting, Without Mercy, Domo Arigato, The Guitar and Other Machines, Vini Reilly and Obey the Time ) were re-released with additional material by Factory Too / London, under the banner Factory Once, between 1996 and 1998.

The film 24 Hour Party People shows Vini Reilly playing to an empty Haçienda ( 58: 30 on the DVD ).

Street and guitarist on Viva Hate, Vini Reilly, had a dispute over songwriting credits-Reilly claimed to have written the majority of the tracks on the album, which Street dismissed and claimed that he wrote all of the tracks on the album and Reilly had no part to play in this.

Vincent " Vini " Gerard Reilly ( born 4 August 1953, Higher Blackley, Manchester ) is an English musician and leader of the post-punk group The Durutti Column.

Reilly's music is respected by fellow musicians and those in the music industry, with Brian Eno citing Reilly's album LC as his all-time favorite album and former Red Hot Chili Peppers ' John Frusciante stating that Vini Reilly is " the best guitarist in the world ".

The band toured extensively and scored an indie hit with their 1984 single " Talk About The Past " which featured Vini Reilly of Durutti Column on piano.

The clay terroir of the area, an alluvial plain created by the river Po, is not ideal for wine ; a notable exception is the Vini del Bosco Eliceo ( DOC ), made from grapes cultivated on the sandy coast line.

In the wake of the Buzzcocks ' release, the old movers and shakers from the Manchester music collective Music Force, who included producer Martin Hannett, Tosh Ryan and Lawrence Beadle, formed a local label called Rabid Records and started putting out singles by local acts like Slaughter & The Dogs ( Rob Gretton later to manage Joy Division and New Order was their roadie / tour manager – all Wythenshawe lads ), John Cooper Clarke and Ed Banger & The Nosebleeds ( whose lineup included Vini Reilly ) and they licensed " Jilted John " by Jilted John to EMI records.

On the commentary track, however, Tony Wilson makes it clear that this is a " bit unfair " because Vini had a " real audience ": " you can take him to Portugal and you get two thousand people, you can take him to Paris and you get eight hundred people, and in Manchester you get five or six hundred ".

In 2002, Nelson released a track entitled " Realise ", which was remixed and included on the mix compilation album 4 Vini: Forever Young.
