During World War 2, about 7.5 million persons were enrolled in courses organized under two special programs administered by state and local school authorities: ( 1 ) Vocational Education for National Defense, and ( 2 ) War Production Training.

Vocational training includes electronics, brickwork and carpentry courses up to City & Guilds and NVQ level, Painting and Decorating courses, industrial cleaning and Desk Top Publishing.

Enrolments in 2007 totalled 20, 098 students, with 14, 151 students enrolled in Vocational and Educational Training courses and 5947 enrolled in Higher Education degrees.

In addition, some VET ( Vocational Education and Training ) courses are offered.

Vocational schools typically have further education courses in addition to the traditional courses at secondary level.

Vocational training courses include auto-body, auto mechanics, culinary arts, painting and decorating, and horticulture.

Vocational courses and work programmes include Construction, Painting and Decorating, Bricklaying, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Industrial and General Cleaning, Laundry, Catering, Gardening and Waste management.

It also provides all of the support services within the School of Aerospace Battle Management, specialist training courses for instructors posted to the School, management of the National Vocational Qualification scheme and training for foreign exchange officers.

The new SACE recognises learning in and beyond the classroom, including: TAFE and other Vocational Education and Training ( VET ) courses ; university studies ; courses from interstate and overseas ; courses undertaken online or through other distance education technologies ; and community learning, such as Country Fire Service training or the Duke of Edinburgh ’ s Award, work experience and other roles such as being a caregiver or participating in a community service organisation.

Vocational courses are also available.

In January 1988, Columbia State began offering courses in the Yates Vocational Center in Franklin.

Remaining individuals undergo Basic Commando Training ( BCT ) and upon completion are categorized and sent to specialized Vocational Training ( VT ) courses namely the Leader, Demolition & Boatmen, Signal, Medic, Sniper and Weapons Course.

2001 – 2002 Vocational courses like B. Sc BioTechnology, B. Sc Computer Science, B. Com Computer Applications and BCA were started under the Institute of Distance Education.

The Franklin County Area Vocational Center, located adjacent to the school ’ s campus, was constructed in 1975 to offer vocational and technical courses for students from all the system ’ s schools.

Vocational training which holds no hope that the skill developed will be in fact a marketable skill becomes just another school `` chore '' for those whose interest in their studies has begun to falter.

Vocational centres were established to help equip children with necessary life skills which make decent incomes in the future viable.

While attending Timmins High and Vocational School in Timmins, she was also the singer for a local band called " Longshot " which covered Top 40 music.

The government is now piloting Vocational Meister Schools in which workplace training is an important part of the programme.

West Caldwell is home to West Caldwell Tech, which is part of the Essex County Vocational Technical Schools, offering vocational instruction to all high school students from across the county.

Middlesex County College is also home to the Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Technologies, an engineering-based high school, which is part of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical High Schools.

Students may also apply to academy schools in the Monmouth County Vocational School District, which include the Academy of Allied Health & Science, Biotechnology High School, High Technology High School, Marine Academy of Science and Technology and Communications High School.

High school students in Freehold Township have the opportunity of going to Vocational Schools such as Biotechnology High School, High Technology High School, the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Fine and Performing Arts Center and the Academy of Allied Health & Science, which are part of the Monmouth County Vocational School District, which are available to all students in Monmouth County on a selective basis.

Middletown also hosts two public magnet schools, High Technology High School, on the property of Brookdale Community College, located in the Lincroft section of town, and the Marine Academy of Science and Technology located on Sandy Hook, which are part of the Monmouth County Vocational School District.

The district also provides students with the opportunities to attend other high schools, including the Monmouth County Vocational School District Academies which include: the Marine Academy of Science and Technology ( MAST ) located on Sandy Hook, High Technology High School located on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, the Academy of Allied Health & Science in Neptune Township and affiliated with the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the Communications High School located on the property of Wall High School, and Biotechnology High School located in Freehold Township.

Post-compulsory Secondary Education also includes the Vocational Training Institutes ( IEK ), which provide formal but unclassified level of education.

Baltimore's vocational high school, Mergenthaler Vocational Technical Senior High School, which opened in 1953, is named after him, although it is commonly referred to simply as " MERVO ".
