His most famous works, such as Portrait of Mrs. Graham ; Mary and Margaret: The Painter's Daughters ; William Hallett and His Wife Elizabeth, nee Stephen, known as The Morning Walk ; and Cottage Girl with Dog and Pitcher, display the unique individuality of his subjects.

The accomplished design, together with the high level of craftsmanship, clearly indicate a metropolitan origin for the majority of these pieces, but unfortunately the surviving Shaftesbury Account Books contain few references to London cabinet-makers other than William Hallett, his name appearing a number of times between 1745 and 1757 with references to ' carved chairs ,' ' the Blew Bed ,' and ' Mahogany Cisterns.

His second wife, Lady Mary Bouverie, was the daughter of the 1st Viscount Folkestone who was a major patron of William Hallett and Benjamin Goodison, her brother the 2nd Viscount acquiring pieces from the Royal cabinetmakers William Vile and John Cobb.

In an episode of the television series Bonanza ( Look to the Stars, broadcast March 18, 1962 ), Ben Cartwright ( Lorne Greene ) helps the 16-year-old Albert Abraham Michelson ( portrayed by 25-year-old Douglas Lambert ( 1936 – 1986 )) obtain an appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy, despite the opposition of the bigoted town schoolteacher ( played by William Schallert ).

It has been stated elsewhere that he was the grandson of the inventor William Friese-Greene, who is credited by some as the inventor of cinematography, but Friese-Greene's genealogy shows no connection whatsoever to Richard Greene.

It was named after William G. Greene of nearby Tallula Precinct, because he convinced the railroad to come through the town: located on the Chicago, Alton & St. Louis Railroad, Greenview was incorporated by a special act of the Illinois General Assembly on May 6, 1869, then re-incorporated under the new general municipal laws of the state in March 7, 1877.
