The more sober western or " upper " end of the Kurfürstendamm is marked by the Berlin-Halensee railway station on the Ringbahn line and the junction with the Bundesautobahn 100 ( Stadtring ) at the Rathenauplatz roundabout, featuring the long disputed 1987 " Beton Cadillacs " sculpture by Wolf Vostell.

Yves Klein in France, and in New York City, Carolee Schneemann, Yayoi Kusama, Charlotte Moorman and Yoko Ono and in Germany Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell and Nam June Paik were pioneers of performance-based works of art.

With the help of a group of artists including Joseph Beuys and Wolf Vostell, Maciunas then organised a series of Fluxfests across Western Europe.

Among its early associates were Joseph Beuys, Dick Higgins, Nam June Paik, Wolf Vostell, La Monte Young, Joseph Byrd, and Yoko Ono who explored media ranging from performance art to poetry to experimental music to film.

Their radically untraditional works included, for example, the video art of Nam June Paik and Charlotte Moorman and the performance art of Joseph Beuys and Wolf Vostell.

The Futurist art movement was important for the development of the noise aesthetic, as was the Dada art movement ( a prime example being the Antisymphony concert performed on April 30, 1919 in Berlin ), and later the Surrealist and Fluxus art movements, specifically the Fluxus artists Joe Jones, Yasunao Tone, George Brecht, Robert Watts, Wolf Vostell, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Walter De Maria's Ocean Music, Milan Knížák's Broken Music Composition, early LaMonte Young and Takehisa Kosugi.

The building complex has been restores and houses a surprising collection of art by German artist Wolf Vostell, who was an important member of the fluxus movement.

In the 1960s Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell, Nam June Paik, Charlotte Moorman, Dick Higgins, and HA Schult staged Happenings in Germany.

Wolf Vostell ( 14 October 1932 Leverkusen – 3 April 1998 Berlin ) was a German painter and sculptor of the second half of the 20th century.

Wolf Vostell is considered one of the early adopters of Video art, Environment, Installation, Happening and the Fluxus Movement.

Wolf Vostell was born in Leverkusen, Germany, and put his artistic ideas into practice from 1950 onwards.

Wolf Vostell created his first Dé-collage in 1954.

Wolf Vostell was behind many Happenings, in New York, Berlin, Cologne, Wuppertal and Ulm among others.

In 1963 Wolf Vostell became a pioneer of Video art and Installation with his work 6 TV Dé-coll / age shown at the Smollin Gallery in New York, and now in the collection of the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.

At Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia, he did poorly academically, having little interest in school work, but was popular with other students, and after leaving decided that he wanted to study painting at college, thereby beginning his studies at School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1964, where he was a roommate of Peter Wolf.
