The Holy See's Annuario Pontificio, in its list of popes and antipopes, attaches a footnote to its mention of Stephen II ( III ): " On the death of Zachary the Roman priest Stephen was elected ; but, since four days later he died, before his consecratio, which according to the canon law of the time was the true commencement of his pontificate, his name is not registered in the Liber Pontificalis nor in other lists of the Popes.

In fact, praetoric law was so defined by the famous Roman jurist Papinian ( Amilius Papinianus — died in 212 AD ): " Ius praetorium est quod praetores introduxerunt adiuvandi vel supplendi vel corrigendi iuris civilis gratia propter utilitatem publicam " (" praetoric law is that law introduced by praetors to supplement or correct civil law for public benefit ").

He also had two children with Dr Mamphela Ramphele ( a prominent activist within the BCM ): a daughter, Lerato, born in 1974, who died of pneumonia when she was only two months old, and a son, Hlumelo, who was born in 1978, after Biko's death.

When he came to mount the steps to the scaffold, he is widely quoted as saying ( to the officials ): " I pray you, I pray you, Mr Lieutenant, see me safe up and for my coming down, I can shift for myself "; while on the scaffold he declared that he died " the king's good servant, but God's first.

After the last prince of the family of Alaeddin, to whom Osman's empire was indebted for its foundation in Asia Minor, died, there was no one to compete with Osman for the headship of the Turks of the region and dominion over the whole peninsula, save the Emir of Karamanids.

In the case of Karesi, the ruler had died and had left two sons whose claims to the post of Emir were equally valid.

Sher Ali died on 21 February 1879 near Balkh and his son, Mohammad Yaqub Khan, declared himself Emir of Afghanistan.

Before he died, the Sultan signed thousands of blank papers which were used by Shajar al-Durr and Emir Fakhr ad-Din in issuing decrees and giving Sultanic orders and they succeeded in convincing the people and the other government officials that the Sultan was only ill — not dead.
