At this time Fokker F27 Friendships entered service between regional Belgian airports and European destinations such as London Heathrow.

In the early 1960s it introduced the Boeing 727-100 and Douglas DC-9 as well as the Fokker F27 Friendship for regional routes.

The first scheduled flight was a Braathens SAFE Fokker F27 on 13 October, a route that flew daily from Oslo along the South Coast to Stavanger.

Braathens SAFE was the second airline to take delivery of the Fokker F-27 Friendship, which replaced the DC-3 and Herons with turboprops and cabin pressurization.

The airline has operated at least three models each from Douglas, Fokker and Boeing, in addition to the de Havilland Heron and British Aerospace 146.

AirBaltic, the national airline of Latvia and under SAS part-ownership, opened up a second base at Vilnius in 2004 to complement its Riga operation and became the largest carrier at Vilnius, using Boeing 737 jets and Fokker F50 turboprops.

Yet, even there he found that while the Netherlands new airline KLM was a willing taker for all planes it could get, the market was almost completely owned by Fokker.

Irish airline EUjet, formed in 2002, began scheduled flights in September 2004 to destinations such as Manchester, Edinburgh, and Dublin with a small fleet of Fokker 100 airliners.

During the 1980s, the airport was a hub for the commuter airline Brockway Air, which operated a fleet of Fokker F-27 and Beechcraft 1900 tuboprop aircraft.
