His rule is threatened by a conspiracy spun by the other major powers in the Imperium: the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild, the Bene Tleilax, Irulan herself and even some of the Fremen.

When the conspiracy ultimately fails and Scytale is killed, Edric is executed in 10, 207 A. G. by Fremen Naib Stilgar, on orders from Alia.

Coincidentally, when Korba is later brought to the throne room for trial ( his last appearance in the Dune series ) his entrance through the main doors is similarly illuminated, except instead of crucifixion he is to be executed for taking part in the Fremen conspiracy against Muad ' Dib.

Alia attempts to assassinate Jessica who escapes into the desert with Duncan Idaho's help, precipitating a rebellion among the Fremen.

Ordos motives are typically " insidious " in that they attempt to manipulate many of the subhouses ( Fremen, Sardaukar, Smugglers ) into conflict with any of the major house they are fighting, using gholas and other forms of treachery to thwart any attempts at alliance among their enemies and secure alliances for House Ordos.

Alia's subsequent attempt to eliminate her mother — as well as a Corrino plot to assassinate the twins — sets off a Fremen rebellion and puts the religion of Muad ' Dib in turmoil.

At the end of Dune Messiah, Paul Atreides walks into the desert, a blind man, leaving his twin children Leto and Ghanima in the care of the Fremen, while his sister Alia rules the universe as regent.

Nine years after Emperor Paul Muad ' dib walked into the desert, blind, the ecological transformation of Dune has reached the point where some Fremen are living without stillsuits in the less arid climate and have started to move out of the Sietches and into the villages and cities.

Some Fremen believe he is Paul Atreides.

They flee to the Fremen, who see in Paul the Lisan al-Gaib or " the Voice from the Outer World ", a prophet they call the Mahdi whom they believe is " The One Who Will Lead Us to Paradise ".

Later on the recovering planet Dune, the awakened gholas of Paul and Chani have reverted back to the ways of the ancient Fremen, resolving to lead simple lives and restore the planet to its former glory.

Eventually, Paul Atreides gains a level of omniscience which allows him to take over the planet and the known universe, and causing the Fremen of Arrakis to worship him like a god.

In Dune, Jessica and Paul take refuge among the Fremen after the attack on House Atreides.

With his mother's guidance, Paul is able to make use of the planted myths by claiming to be the " Mahdi ", a messianic figure from legendary material planted among the Fremen by the Missionaria Protectiva.

His smugglers fall for a Fremen trap — a fake hoard of spice — and are almost killed before Paul, now the Fremen leader " Muad ' Dib ", recognizes him.

When a blinded Paul abdicates and wanders into the desert to die ( as is the tradition for blind Fremen ), Alia asks Idaho for his continued support and affection to help her get through the times ahead.

Paul rises to power among the Fremen, whom he finds to be fierce fighters whose skills and numbers are underestimated by the Harkonnens.

As the Fremen guerrilla " Muad ' Dib ," Paul soon manages to lead the Fremen in a widespread challenge to the Harkonnens ' control of Arrakis.

In Dune, Paul initially has green eyes, but after several years on Arrakis they begin to take on the deep, uniform blue of the Fremen.

In the case of the Fremen, a messiah legend has been put in place that is utilized in Dune by Paul Atreides to secure the safety of himself and his mother Jessica.

Part of the Fremen / Atreides strategy is to wait until a sandstorm shorts out the force field shields of the Harkonnen / Imperial transport ships, disable them with projectile weapons, and then attack with a vast assault force, using giant sandworms under cover of the severe weather to break the enemy lines.

In Dune, Paul personally trains a force of Fremen " death commandos " ( known as Fedaykin, " Blood Guards ") in the use of the Bene Gesserit weirding way, a specialized martial art and in the way of using their voices as weapons ( not to be confused with The Voice )

Leto's son Paul Atreides ultimately rises to lead the entire native Fremen population of Arrakis, using his subsequent control of the planet and its supply of the valuable spice melange to depose the Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe, Shaddam Corrino IV.

The Fremen Uliet was given the mission, and was trusted to do this act using a poisoned crysknife, a traditional Fremen weapon that once drawn, had to draw blood.

Muad ' Dib declares that they now possess incontrovertible evidence that Korba plotted the downfall of the Emperor and personally helped import a dangerous weapon of mass destruction to Dune: the stone burner which killed or blinded several hundred Fremen, including Muad ' Dib himself.

Korba's actions are a microcosm for Muad ' Dib's religious empire, one that began in religious fanaticism and Fremen brotherhood and ended in violence, treachery, and the loss of Fremen identity ( Korba even reaches for the claim that the survivors of the stone burner have Tleilaxu eyes, forgetting for a moment the Fremen custom of ritual suicide for the blind ).

" He subsequently kills and assumes the appearance of Lichna, the daughter of the trusted Fremen Otheym, in order to gain entrance to the Atreides Keep at Arrakeen and lure Paul out to Otheym's house, where Scytale has planted a nuclear weapon called a stone burner.

His vision of peace is corrupted by dogmatic religious bureaucrats, and his once-noble desert tribes, the Fremen, grow fat and wealthy on the spoils of war and the de-desertification of Dune.

" A new religious figure called " The Preacher " has risen in the desert, railing against the religious government's injustices and the changes among the Fremen.

Leto arranges for Fremen leader Stilgar to protect his sister if there is an attempt on their lives.

A band of Fremen outlaws capture Leto and force him to undergo the spice trance at the suggestion of one of Alia's agents, who has infiltrated the group.

Leto declares himself Emperor and asserts control over the Fremen.

However, a crisis on Arrakis begins when the mysterious Muad ' Dib emerges as a leader of the native Fremen tribes against the rule of the Harkonnens.

Eventually, a series of Fremen victories against Beast Rabban threaten to disrupt the trade of the spice.

The Imperial forces fall prey to a surprise attack by the Fremen.

Their past ruthlessness gives them little hope of quarter from the enraged Fremen.

He leaves his children in the care of the Fremen, with Paul's sister Alia set to rule the empire as regent.
