The name " Mi-go " is used in the " Cthulhu Mythos " of H. P.

Mi-go (" The Abominable Ones ") is a Himalayan nickname for a race of extraterrestrials in the Cthulhu Mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft and others.

It is said that transcriptions of these designs can be sensed by the Mi-go, and those possessing them shall be hunted down by the few remaining on earth.

While the Mi-go of Lovecraft's mythos is completely unlike the migou of Tibetan stories, Lovecraft seems to equate the two, as can be seen in the following excerpt from " The Whisperer in Darkness ":

Yuggoth is the planet where the extraterrestrial Mi-go have established a colony.

However, beginning in the month after finishing his sequence, Lovecraft set to work on his story The Whisperer in Darkness ( 1931 ) where Yuggoth is recreated as a planet of fungoid beings given the name Mi-go.

The wild man is known around the world by different names like bigfoot, windego, yeahoh, rugaru, Hibagon, sasquatch, Ren Xiong, Dzu-teh, The Duende, Migoi or Mi-go, Minnesota Ice man, Dev, Salvaje, Chuchunya, omah, ulak, uluk, bogs, Abominable Snowman, Mawas, Curupir, Urayuli, Hantu Hutan, Arulataq, Bushman, Goblins, Tent Monster, Meh-Teh, Nant ' ina, fantasma humano, Hlo mung, Woodsman, Sisimite, Yiren, Yeh Ren, Chorti u tcur witsir, woodwose, Skookum, Yeren, mapinguari, Kang Admi, Mirka, Amomongo, Wudewas, Almas, Mande Barung, Batutut, Hibagon, Moehau, L ' Homme Sauvage, Ebu Gogo, Batutut, Ujit Maero, Rapuwai, Mawa, Yeren, Orang Dalam, hantu jerang gigi, mi rgod, Yowie, metoh-kangmi, Ucumar, Nuk-luk, Mulen, Người Rừng, Xing-Xing, forest man, mountain man, Salish, Yeti, Stick Indian, Ts ' emekwes, Yahoo or Yahoo – Devil, yuho, ape yoho, Cax-vinic, Grassman, di-di, Maricoxi, Ban-manush, Fouke Monster, Am Fear Liath Mòr, Yen Hsiung and so many more-they all are an ape-like cryptid and are akin to Pakistani Iceman / Wildman.

The book states that the Mi-go usually have five pairs of appendages, though the number can vary.

There have been attempts at categorizing this fictional group of beings, and Phillip A. Schreffler argues that by carefully scrutinizing Lovecraft's writings a workable framework emerges that outlines the entire " pantheon " – from the unreachable " Outer Ones " ( e. g. Azathoth, who apparently occupies the centre of the universe ) and " Great Old Ones " ( e. g. Cthulhu, imprisoned on Earth in the sunken city of R ' lyeh ) to the lesser castes ( the lowly slave shoggoths and the Mi-go ).

In " The Whisperer in Darkness " the Mi-go are heard to give praise to Nyarlathotep and Shub-Niggurath, suggesting some form of worship, although in newer works by authors other than Lovecraft, the Mi-go are at war with the Elder Gods.

The Mi-go, with their untoward influence over the planet-shattering path of Ghroth, may have instigated the obliteration of Shaggai for some inscrutable purpose.

Yet, as Lemke and O ’ Connor point out, The Book of Lamentations, while adapting several traditional literary, historical, and cultural Near Eastern elements, is a unique literary composition, scripted to a specific historical situation, in response to an historical catastrophe, addressing the survivors of this catastrophe in a distinctive religious context.
