Simmons, who had belonged to several area groups ( among them " Scratch ", an acoustic trio with future Doobies bassist Tiran Porter ) and also performed as a solo artist, was already an accomplished fingerstyle player whose approach to the instrument complemented Johnston's rhythmic R & B strumming.

Upon his return to Chicago he rejoined fellow AACM members bassist Fred Hopkins and drummer Steve McCall, forming a trio which would eventually become the group Air, one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed avant-garde jazz groups of the 1970s and 1980s.

Electric bass guitarist and upright bassist Salvador " Sal " Cuevas was for many years, a member of the salsa music group Fania All-Stars, circa ( 1978 – 1985 ), as well as several other top name salsa groups of the time ( Johnny Pacheco, Héctor Lavoe, Pete Conde, etc.

At the same time, he continued to work with other groups that are very composition-based, such as guitarist Phil Miller's In Cahoots, drummer Pip Pyle's Equipe Out, and various projects with former Soft Machine bassist Hugh Hopper.

He is best known for being a founding member of the jazz groups The Bad Plus ( with Reid Anderson and Ethan Iverson ) and Happy Apple ( with Michael Lewis and Erik Fratzke ) although he is active in many other projects including free jazz collective Buffalo Collision with NYC " Downtown " legends Tim Berne and Hank Roberts and the electronic art / pop group Halloween Alaska as well as the noise / prog band The Gang Font with former Husker Du bassist Greg Norton.

In the mid-1970s, while touring Germany, Korner established an intensive working relationship with bassist Colin Hodgkinson who played for the support act Back Door.

An early bluegrass bassist to rise to prominence was Howard Watts ( also known as Cedric Rainwater ), who played with Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys beginning in 1944.

Lynne, with the 7-piece line-up that supported Time ( with the exception of bassist Groucutt being replaced by Martin Smith ), played a small number of live ELO performances in 1986, including shows in England and Germany along with US appearances on American Bandstand, Solid Gold, then at Disneyland that summer.

In 1984, Joy Division's bassist Peter Hook named Play Dead, as one of their heirs: " If you listen to a band like Play Dead, who I really like, Joy Division played the same stuff that Play Dead are playing.

Naming the band after actress Marilyn Monroe's final film The Misfits ( 1961 ), Danzig recruited guitarist Jimmy Battle, bassist Diane DiPiazza, and drummer Manny Martínez to fill out the lineup while Danzig himself sang and played the electric piano.
