The historical monument marking where John Batman landed at Indented Head in 1835. In 1835, the Tasmanian colonist John Batman set up his base camp for the land speculation company Port Phillip Association at Indented Head while he returned to Tasmania ( then known as Van Diemen's Land ) to collect his family and additional provisions.

The monument was built to honor General Phillip Sheridan ’ s Civil War unit and the 47th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers.

Nearby stands the elegant and imposing monument to Samuel Turner ( 1805 – 1878 ), treasurer of the Devonshire Hospital and Buxton Bath Charity, built in 1879 and accidentally lost for the latter part of the 20th century during construction work before being found and restored in 1994.

Grant died at Bath on 23 May 1764, aged 63, and was buried on 7 June following in the aisle of Prestonpans Church, Haddingtonshire, where a monument in the churchyard was erected to his memory.

Boyle erected an elaborate monument to himself, his wives, his mother and children in The Collegiate Church of St Mary Youghal, County Cork and there is a similar but much larger Boyle monument in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin.

His funeral took place at St. James's Church, East Cowes on 20 May, where he was buried in the churchyard, where the monument takes the form of a stone sarcophagus.

The Provincial Congress of Massachusetts, after adjournment from Concord, met from April to July 1775 in the First Parish Church, the site of which is marked by a monument.

Todmorden has the look of a Victorian mill town and has some notable buildings including Dobroyd Castle ( completed in 1869 ), now used as a residential activity centre for schoolchildren ; the Edwardian Hippodrome Theatre ; an imposing Greek Revival town hall ( built 1866 – 1875 ) that dominates the centre of town ; the Grade I listed Todmorden Unitarian Church ( built 1865 – 1869 ); and the 120 ft Stoodley Pike monument ( built 1814 and rebuilt in 1854 ) atop the hill of the same name.
