In order for 107 episodes to be produced, Henson and Marvel hired two companies: the Japanese-based Toei Animation for Seasons 1 – 3 and five episodes of Season 4, and the Korean-based AKOM Productions for Episode six of Season 4 through Season 8, both of which also animated G. I.

Nelson Shin's AKOM hid the fact that he had further outsourced inking and drawing to North Korea, lest this upset human rights activists in the U. S., especially since it was Disney films being completed in poor conditions in the North.

In fact, it was the success of the compilation film, The Bugs Bunny / Road Runner Movie in 1980, featuring the archived film of these characters that prompted Warner Brothers to organize Warner Brothers Animation as a new production division to restart production of original material.

While Marvel's X-Men animated series was being produced by Saban, Spider-Man was produced by the newly formed Marvel Films Animation ; it was the only series that in-house studio produced, but was animated by Tokyo Movie Shinsha with Korean studios.
