Hummer was a brand of trucks and SUVs, first marketed in 1992 when AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 Humvee.

The original Hummers were first designed and built by AM General Corporation, which was formerly AMC-Jeep's General Products division, in its Mishawaka, Indiana, assembly plant.

The US $ 1. 2 billion contract won by AM General in 1983 was to produce 55, 000 " Humvees " by 1985, which was later increased by 15, 000 additional units.

AM General had planned to sell a civilian version of the Humvee as far back as the late 1980s.

In 1992, AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 Humvee vehicle to the public under the brand name " Hummer ".

In December 1999, AM General sold the brand name to General Motors, but continued to manufacture the vehicles.

GM was responsible for the marketing and distribution of all Hummers produced by AM General.

Originally released in 1992, this vehicle was designed by American Motors ' AM General subsidiary for the U. S. Military.

In July of that year, AM General ( a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation ) began preliminary design work, and less than a year later, the first prototype was in testing.

In June 1981, the Army awarded AM General a contract for development of several more prototype vehicles to be delivered to the U. S. government for another series of tests, and the company was later awarded the initial production contract for 55, 000 HMMWVs to be delivered in 1985.

After Somalia, the military recognized a need for a more protected HMMWV and AM General developed the M1114, an armored HMMWV to withstand small arms fire.

With the increase in direct attacks and guerrilla warfare in Iraq, AM General has diverted the majority of its manufacturing power to producing these vehicles.

There are at least two Chinese automobile manufacturers building Humvee copies, possibly with the assistance of AM General.

It appears that at least one company, Dongfeng Motor Corporation ( DFM ), has the full consent and cooperation of AM General.

In 1971, Jeep's Defense and Government Products Division was turned into AM General, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Motors Corporation, which also owned Jeep.

In 1979, while still owned by American Motors, AM General began the first steps toward designing the Humvee.

AM General also continued manufacturing the two-wheel-drive DJ, which Jeep created in 1953.

On 8 April 1919, naval Admiral W. H. G. Bullard and Captain Stanford C. Hooper met with executives of the General Electric Corporation ( GE ) and asked them to discontinue selling the company's Alexanderson alternators ( used in the high-power AM radio transmitters of that era ) to the British-owned Marconi Company, and to its subsidiary, the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America.

Allen, however, continued to develop the Gong mythology from the late seventies up until the nineties in his solo work, and with bands such as Euterpe, Planet Gong ( which comprised Allen and Smyth playing with the British festival band Here & Now ), and New York Gong ( comprising Allen and the musicians who would later become known as Material ), while Smyth formed a separate band Mother Gong, with Jean-Paul Vivini from the band Can AM Des Puig ( author of The Book of AM produced by Daevid Allen ), playing in Spain and England.

Also, the AM simulcast on what is now WIFN have ceased shortly after the switch although it continued to carry the WALR callsign under a changed format for sometime.

WBZA continued to serve Springfield with a simulcast of WBZ's programming until July 1962, when it was shut down to allow Westinghouse to purchase WINS in New York City, as the company already owned seven AM radio stations — the maximum allowed by the Federal Communication Commission ( FCC ) at that time.

As with the weekday lineup, talk continued to be programmed at night, including three of the specialty shows ( Kid Company on Saturday evenings and a revived Calling All Sports and Looking at the Law on Sunday evenings ), a Saturday night talk show hosted by Lovell Dyett, and an overnight show with former WHDH ( 850 AM, now occupied by WEEI ) host Norm Nathan.

The original Piccadilly Radio continued to broadcast on the AM frequency of 1152 kHz.

In that time, as the listener demographic groups aged, and popular music emigrated to FM radio, MOR stations competed with adult contemporary FM stations and AM stations broadcasting the Music of Your Life and adult standards formats, most eliminated music and transmitted only news and talk programs ; some continued to play MOR music until the early 1990s.

The Capital Gold network started in London in 1988 on Capital Radio's AM frequency, as the British Government urged radio stations to end simulcasting ( broadcasting the same programmes simultaneously on FM and AM ) and threatening to remove one of their frequencies if simulcasting continued.

Initially broadcasting as Swansea Sound, the station split into two separate services on 30 September 1995, creating a new music-led station called 96. 4 Sound Wave on 96. 4 FM, while Swansea Sound continued to broadcast on 1170 AM.

Downtown Radio continued on 1026 kHz AM and on some FM frequencies and Cool FM was created to broadcast on the 97. 4 MHz FM frequency in the Greater Belfast area only.
