The capital is the town of Aegina, situated at the northwestern end of the island.

There are regular bus services from Aegina town to destinations throughout the island such as Agia Marina.

Apart from these two examples, the references in various writers to an opening of some kind in the roofs of temples dedicated to particular deities, and the statement of Vitruvius, which was doubtless based on the writings of Greek authors, that in decastyle or large temples the centre was open to the sky and without a roof ( medium autem sub diva est sine tecto ), render the existence of the hypaethros probable in some cases ; and therefore C. R. Cockerell's discovery in the temple at Aegina of two fragments of a coping-stone, in which there were sinkings on one side to receive the tiles and covering tiles, has been of great importance in the discussion of this subject.

Each of the larger burhs became the centre of a territorial district of considerable size, carved out of the neighbouring countryside in order to support the town.

There are seven districts ( with an eighth currently under construction ), each of which is divided into smaller suburbs, and most of which have a town centre which is the focus of commercial and social activities.

The early 1960s and 1970s ( up until his death in 1976 ) were marked by key works in Helsinki, in particular the huge town plan for the void in centre of Helsinki adjacent to Töölö Bay and the vast railway yards, and marked on the edges by significant buildings such as the National Museum and the main railway station, both by Eliel Saarinen.

The Kocher enters the town ’ s territory from Oberkochen to the south, crosses the district of Unterkochen, then enters the town centre, where the Aal flows into it.

Aalen ’ s territory ranges over all lithostratigraphic groups of the south-German Jurassic: Aalen ’ s south and the Flexner massif are on top of the Weißer Jura ( White Jurassic ), the town centre is on the Brauner Jura ( Brown Jurassic ), and a part of Wasseralfingen is on the Schwarzer Jura ( Black Jurassic ).

The plateau, on whose centre stands the town of Ajmer, may be considered as the highest point in the plains of North India ; from the circle of hills which hem it in, the country slopes away on every side-towards river valleys on the east, south, west and towards the Thar Desert region on the north.

Afyon is the centre of an agricultural area and the city has a country town feel to it.

Best eaten at the famous Ikbal restaurants ( either the old one in the town centre or the big place on the main road ).

In the town centre is St Elvan's Church, a Church in Wales church at the heart of the Parish of Aberdare.

The town is served by Aberdare railway station and Aberdare bus station, opposite each other in the town centre.

A tourist information office run by VisitScotland sits in the centre of town, offering free information, selling souvenirs and acting as a booking office for many of the local B & B's and hotels.

The town is a former centre of the cotton and textile machinery industries.

The town centre is home to a number of high street multiples, including: Greggs, Argos, Specsavers, Wilkinson's, Shoe Zone, Superdrug, Costa Coffee, JJB Sports, Cash Generator, GAME, Poundland, Timpson, Althams Travel, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Claire's, Grainger Games, Post Office, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Burton, Holland & Barrett, Dorothy Perkins, Blockbuster, WHSmith, H Samuel, Iceland, Phones 4U, Boots Opticians, Card Factory, Boots, Store Twenty One, Poundworld, Peacocks, B & M Bargains, Wetherspoons and a mix of other shops.

A retail park near the town centre, Eastgate Retail Park, has stores such as Home Bargains, United Carpets Woodfloor & Beds, Morrisons ( formley Netto ) and Poundstretcher.

The Hyndburn or Accrington Brook flows through the centre of the town.

The main road running through the town centre is the A680 running from Rochdale to Whalley.

One of the most important pieces of the regeneration jigsaw for the Borough is reviving Accrington town centre.
