In 2000, the current owner Jerry Speyer ( a close friend of David Rockefeller ), of Tishman Speyer Properties, L. P., together with the Lester Crown family of Chicago, bought for $ 1. 85 billion the older 14 buildings and land from the previous syndicated owners: Goldman Sachs ( which had 50 percent ownership ), Gianni Agnelli, Stavros Niarchos, and David Rockefeller, who organized the syndicate in 1996 and is historically associated with the other partners.

Agnelli ’ s fashion sense stood out, even in a country like Italy, where dressing well and fashionably is generally perceived as very important.

Her former sister-in-law is the fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg, and an uncle was Gianni Agnelli, the chairman of Fiat.

Born in New York, United States, John Elkann is the first son of Alain Elkann, a journalist and writer of French and Italian Jewish background, and his then wife Countess Margherita Agnelli de Pahlen, a painter and poet from the Agnelli family.

In addition, he is an active member of various non-profit organizations and think-tanks engaged in the global geopolitical debate, including serving as Vice Chairman of the Italian Aspen Institute and the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation and as a member of the Brookings Institution, MOMA and the Italy-China Foundation.

Gianni — as he was known to differentiate from his grandfather, with whom he shared his first name — inherited the command of Fiat and the Agnelli family assets in general in 1966, following a period in which Fiat was temporarily " ruled " by Vittorio Valletta while Gianni was learning how his family's company worked.

Prior to his marriage on 19 November 1953 to Donna Marella Caracciolo dei principi di Castagneto — a half-American, half-Neapolitan noblewoman who made a small but significant name as a fabric designer, and a bigger name as a tastemaker — Agnelli was a noted playboy whose mistresses included the socialite Pamela Harriman.

The group, consisting of Bruce Jay Paskow, Tom Goodkind, and Lauren Agnelli, came up with their name over free drinks provided by Agnelli, who was a waitress at a Village club where Goodkind and Paskow were regulars.

In his retirement speech, Milanese fashion designer Nino Cerruti named Agnelli as one of his biggest inspirations, amongst James Bond and John F. Kennedy.

The guests included his friend Elizabeth Taylor ( who acted as a co-host ), Gianni Agnelli, Robert Maxwell, Barbara Walters, Henry Kissinger, half a dozen US state governors, and the CEOs of scores of multinational corporations likely to advertise in his magazine.

Founded in 1897 as Sport Club Juventus by a group of young Torinese students, among them, who was their first president, Eugenio Canfari, and his brother Enrico, author of the company's historical memory ; they are managed by the industrial Agnelli family since 1923, which constitutes the oldest sporting partnership in Italy, thus making Juventus the first professional club in the country.

Edoardo never married, but he had one son ( born out of wedlock in 1973 ), who was not recognized by Gianni Agnelli.

The social conflicts related to Fiat's policies ( some say politics ) always saw Agnelli keeping the leading role ; in the 1980s, during the last important trade union action, a dramatic situation in which a strike was blocking all of Fiat's production, he was able to organise the march of 40, 000 workers who broke the pickets and re-entered the factories.

Another longtime associate was David Rockefeller ( yet another Bilderberg regular ), who appointed him to the International Advisory Committee ( IAC ) of Chase Manhattan Bank, of which Rockefeller was chairman ; Agnelli sat on this committee for thirty years.

After the death of Abbot Gian Battista Agnelli in 1788, who had been the editor for more than 40 years, Abbot Giuseppe Lodovico Maria Vanelli took over the paper.

Prince Alfonso presided, supported by the sons of his first marriage to Princess Ira von Fürstenberg, an Agnelli heiress who arrived with her own entourage ; Princess Marie-Louise of Prussia ( great-granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II ) who, with her husband Count Rudolf " Rudi " von Schönburg – Glauchau, would eventually take over the Marbella Club Hotel from Prince Alfonso ; and socialite Countess Gunilla von Bismarck.

In December 1997, Elkann was selected by his grandfather Gianni Agnelli to take the place in the family business of Giovanni Alberto-the son of Gianni ’ s younger brother, Umberto, who had died at the age of 33 – and he was appointed to the Fiat Board at the age of 22.

However, he later returned to the club on the request of Umberto Agnelli, who asked him to be vice-president.

Some members of the Agnelli family ( of FIAT fame ) have built a palatial holiday home — complete with faux medieval tower — on a small island ( Kaltonisi ) situated near the southernmost tip (' the heel ') of Paxos, close to the popular beach of Mongonissi.

The various Caraceni " sartorias " have crafted handmade suits for various celebrities over the years, including Tyrone Power, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Agnelli, Sophia Loren and fashion designer Valentino Garavani.

The two hotel towers, one of which was part of the Olympic Village, were built in the 1930s by FIAT's founder Giovanni Agnelli, and have become the symbol of the village ; these were the first buildings of the village.

Vespa thrived, until 1992, when Giovanni Alberto Agnelli became CEO, but Agnelli was already suffering from cancer and died in 1997.

Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, the son of Gianni's younger brother, Umberto Agnelli, died of a rare form of cancer in 1997 at age 33 while he was being groomed by his uncle to head the Fiat Group.

The third son Giovanni Alberto Agnelli was groomed to succeed at Fiat but died of cancer at the age of 33 in 1997.
