Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich are the three clubs to have won all three major UEFA club competitions.

Ajax won the championship in 1966 and 1967, scoring a record breaking 122 goals including 33 from Johan Cruijff, and again in 1968, and reached the European Cup final of 1969 against AC Milan.

In 1969 – 70 Ajax won the Dutch league championship, winning 27 out of 34 games and scoring 100 goals.

In 1973, Ajax won a third consecutive European Cup and another Dutch championship.

In 1977, Ajax won their first domestic championship since 1973.

Ajax won the ' 87 Cup Winners Cup and reached the final again the following season.

Managed by Louis van Gaal, Ajax won the 1992 UEFA Cup.

Ajax won the UEFA Champions League 1994-95 and the league title.

In 1995, the year Ajax won the Champions League, the Dutch national team was almost entirely composed of Ajax players, with Edwin van der Sar in goal ; players such as Michael Reiziger, Frank de Boer, and Danny Blind in defense ; Ronald de Boer, Edgar Davids, and Clarence Seedorf in midfield ; and Patrick Kluivert and Marc Overmars in attack.

That victory meant Ajax had won every tournament ( 5 in total ) they entered that year, a feat Celtic achieved in 1967 ( with 6 trophies ) and Barcelona ( also 6 trophies ) repeated in 2009.

AZ's second championship was the first Eredivisie title in 28 years, and the first time since then that the Eredivisie was won by a team other than the " big three " ( Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord ).

Only three teams ( Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich ) have won each of the three main competitions ( European Cup / UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup Winner's Cup and UEFA Cup / Europa League ), a feat that is no longer possible for any team that did not win the Cup Winners ' Cup.

Bergkamp scored his first senior goal for the club against HFC Haarlem on 22 February 1987 in a match Ajax won 6 – 0.

Ajax won the 1992 UEFA Cup Final, beating Torino through the away goals ruling.

Feijenoord faced arch-rivals Ajax in the final, which was won by the Amsterdam team 4 – 2.

As the cup holders, Feijenoord participated in the 1970 – 71 European Cup despite relinquishing the Dutch title, which was won by Ajax.

Feyenoord won their fifth Dutch Cup in 1980 by beating Ajax 3 – 1 in the final.

In the extra time, Feyenoord became the only team to beat Ajax the season they won the Eredivisie and the Champions League unbeaten.

Before the start of the new 1999 – 2000 season, Ajax were beaten in their own stadium when Feyenoord won their second Dutch Super Cup title, after a free kick by Patrick Paauwe, which secured a 3 – 2 win.

As the 54th Eredivisie ended on 2 May 2010, PSV ended in third, eight points behind the champions, after a shaky end as Ajax climbed up the table to swipe second while Twente won with one point over Ajax.

Anderlecht won it in both 1976 an 1978, and finished runners up in between, and Ajax failed to defend their title in 1988, losing out to K. V.

After several days of competition, Odysseus and Ajax are tied for the ownership of the magical armor which was forged on Mount Olympus by the god Hephaestus.

Despite being from one of the traditional three large Dutch cities, it has not been able to match AFC Ajax, Feyenoord or PSV in terms of success in the Eredivisie or in European competition.

The 1972 final between Dutch team Ajax and Scotland's Rangers is considered unofficial by UEFA, as Rangers were banned from European competition due to the behaviour of their fans during the 1972 UEFA Cup Winners ' Cup Final.

In the Dutch Championship competition, NAC defeated Ajax, Be Quick 1887 and Go Ahead.

In his first competition match, against rivals PSV Eindhoven, he scored the second Ajax goal, deciding the game on a 2 – 2 draw.

The 1998 semi-final in the cup competition was lost to Ajax.

AZ and Ajax regained their momentum, making for a close finish, with all three teams tied at 72 points before the last competition day.

The competition is hosted by Eredivisie club Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena.

Vitesse ( French for speed ) has enjoyed some success in Eredivisie and featured in the UEFA Cup competition, but has never been considered a close competitor of the top three clubs of Netherlands football, namely PSV, Feyenoord, and Ajax.

Groningen started the competition with two draws against Ajax ( 2-2 ) and AZ ( 1-1 ).

The 1998 FIFA World Cup in France was the first time South Africa's national football team had reached the later stages of the competition and McCarthy ( then at Ajax ) was one of their key players.

Sensing that he had little future in a club with so much competition for a first team place such as Ajax, he agreed a loan deal to FC Volendam in the 1994 – 95 season before signing on for Roda JC in the beginning of the 1995 – 96 season in a permanent transfer.

The second half of the season playing in this line-up Ajax performed better and were able to reach the newly born Eredivisie play-offs a being ranked fifth in the regular competition.

PSV confirmed their role as title favorites beating Dutch Champions AFC Ajax 4-2 in the Dutch Super Cup final.

Rivalry with fellow Dutch teams is, however, less friendly and ADO achieved notoriety following an incident after beating Ajax on 20 March 2011.

On the European scene, Ajax captured the UEFA Cup in 1992 and the UEFA Champions League in 1995 after beating Milan in the final.

The team's performance in the UEFA Champions League improved under Zajec, as they managed to stay undefeated in the remaining three group matches, beating Porto and Ajax and drawing with Olympiacos.

In 2006, after beating Skála Ítróttarfelag of the Faroe Islands in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, and Drogheda United of Ireland in the second qualifying round ( after penalties ), they reached the first round of the UEFA Cup, where they were knocked out by AFC Ajax of the Netherlands.

In Arnesen's six seasons at Ajax, he won three Dutch Eredivisie championship titles in 1977, 1979, and 1980, and won the KNVB Cup in 1979, beating FC Twente 3 – 0 in the final.

Attacker Robert Pires took the penalty and scored, leaving Arsenal 1 – 0 winners & with Ajax beating Sparta Prague, FC Thun exited the Champions League.

He managed Copenhagen through to the group stage of the 2006 – 07 UEFA Champions League, after beating Ajax in the final qualifying round on 23 August 2006.

At Ajax Cape Town he won the Rothman's Cup beating Orlando Pirates 4 – 1 in the final in what was to be his final game for the club.
