In Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati, and many other Indian languages, the meaning of Akasha has been accepted as sky.

The Western religious philosophy called Theosophy has popularized the word Akasha as an adjective, through the use of the term " Akashic records " or " Akashic library ", referring to an ethereal compendium of all knowledge and history.

* Akasha is a Rock Band from Costa Rica, the band has shared stage with bands such as P. O. D.

Marius informs his rescuers that Akasha has been awakened by Lestat, or rather his rock music, for he has joined a rock band of mortals whose names are Alex, Larry and Tough Cookie.

Akasha has abducted Lestat and takes him as an unwilling consort to various locations in the world, inciting women to rise up and kill the men who have oppressed them.

Santino is not heard of again until in the novel The Queen of the Damned where he comes with Eric to Maharet's place, meeting Jesse who is still human at that time and where he accompanies Pandora to rescue Marius from the icy wall Akasha has entrapped Marius in, possibly hoping to redeem himself in his eyes for the wrongs he had done to the elder.

It later becomes clear that Akasha intends for those vampires she has spared to become her " angels ", or if they chose to fight her, they will become devils opposed to her.

Marius eventually has the task of keeping them, and it is while in his keeping that Akasha destroys Enkil and consumes his blood as she no longer needs him and feels imprisoned and dead around him.

Out of these, four categories, Dharma ( medium of motion ), Adharma ( medium of rest ), Akasha ( space ) and Pudgala ( matter ) are described as the asti-kaya dravya's ( substances which possess constituent parts extending in space ) while the fifth category Kala is an anasti-kaya dravya ( which has no extension in space ).

Because he has drunk so often from the vampire queen Akasha from whom the vampiric life fount originated, he is immensely powerful and possesses a number of advanced powers: with his mind, he can ignite objects ( pyrokinesis ) ( the ' Fire Gift '), the ability to fly ( the ' Cloud Gift '), very strong telekinesis, and can move with such speed that only other powerful blood drinkers are able to track his movements.

There Maharet tells the story of Akasha and the red-haired twins ( who are, in fact, Maharet and her sister, Mekare ) to Pandora, Jesse, Marius, Santino, Eric, Armand, Daniel, Louis and Gabrielle.

The vampires refuse, but before Akasha can destroy them, Mekare enters.

Mekare kills Akasha by severing her head.

However, when the witches admit that they cannot help the monarchs, Akasha orders the mutilation of the witches: Maharet loses her eyes and Mekare her tongue.

This gift is known to be possessed by Marius, Akasha, Eudoxia, Thorne, Khayman, Lestat, Mekare and Maharet, and later the vampires Merrick Mayfair and Quinn Blackwood.

Known holders of this power are Akasha, Marius, Lestat, Maharet, Mekare, Khayman and Mael.

As they age they become more powerful and slowly their skin becomes whiter, smoother, and more reflective, resembling marble as seen with Akasha and Enkil, Maharet, Mekare, and Khayman.

Mael is present when Maharet tells Jesse her story, when they later try to reason with Akasha, and when Mekare kills her.

But another ancient vampire appeared, the long-lost twin of Maharet, Mekare, who had sworn an oath to destroy Akasha.

Akasha eventually becomes fascinated by the spirits of the supernatural, forcibly bringing the red-haired witch sisters Maharet and Mekare to her court to commune with these spirits.

Akasha then took her king Enkil and passed the " Dark Gift " onto him, transforming Enkil into a vampire, and then made Khayman, who then passed it on to Mekare and Maharet.

She spares at least 17 ( Maharet, Mekare, Khayman, Louis, Jesse, Gabrielle, Armand, Daniel, Marius, Mael, Santino, Pandora, Eric, Vittorio, Thorne and the coven that made Quinn Blackwood ; Manfred Blackwood, Petronia, and one from ancient Greece ) vampires from her slaughter — either ancient vampires she can't easily destroy, or Lestat's loved ones — and demands that they join with her in her plan for a new world order: to kill 99 % of the world's men and to set up a new Eden in which women, with Akasha as Goddess, reign.

The surviving vampires all refuse to join with Akasha, but before she can destroy them, the vampire Mekare arrives at the scene and shoves her into a glass wall.

Mekare eats the brain and then the heart, and thereby the soul of Akasha ; as Mekare does so, she takes into herself the source of the spiritual fusion with Amel and becomes the new life force of the vampires, while Akasha's ancient body finally disintegrates into black dust.

Finally, Maharet's ( who created Thorne ) mute sister Mekare fights with Akasha and destroys her.

Lestat and Jesse Reeves share much of this ancient appearance due to receiving blood from Akasha and Maharet, respectively.

At one point, Maharet stabs the statue of Akasha in the heart ; as Maharet feels the energy leave her own body, it confirms the legend that to kill Akasha is to annihilate all vampires.

A heated philosophical discussion ensues ; while Akasha insists that her plan is for the benefit of humanity in the long run and will usher in a new era of peace, Maharet boldly defies her and points out the underlying truth: that Akasha simply wants to dominate and be worshipped, to once again subject everyone to her will, and to once again create a new system of religious dogma to fill her inner emptiness, with absolutely no regard for the lives at stake.

It is believed by many modern Pagans that the Akasha, Spirit, is the Fifth Element.

* In the book Science And The Akashic Field by Ervin Laszlo, Akasha is noted as the aether from which all matter is formed.

Having been awakened by Lestat's rebellious music, Akasha destroys her husband Enkil and plots to rule the world.

Afterward, Khayman, who had been turned into a vampire by Akasha, comes to the witches ' cell and turns them too.

As the source of all vampires, Akasha is connected to all vampires by the blood and spirit they collectively share.

In an experiment by the first Keeper, Akasha and Enkil are exposed to sunlight when they are several thousand years old.

With the Fire Gift, a vampire can set alight an object or being of their choice, for example, in Blood and Gold, when Akasha destroyed Eudoxia's body by fire, or in the film when she set fire to the vampires in bar and at the concert.

Gradually they get to know more and more, and Avicus seems to have been made by Akasha before becoming " A God of the Grove ".

In The Vampire Chronicles series of novels ( beginning with 1973's Interview With the Vampire ) by Anne Rice, Characters Akasha and Enkil ( who appear in 2 books in the series, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of The Damned, which were combined to create Queen of the Damned, a major motion picture starring late R & B singer Aaliyah in the title role ) are referred to both as, ' Those Who Must Be Kept ' and also as, ' The Old Ones '.

During his time in space, one of the Monolith's main weapons, the Staff of Horus, was acquired by a young woman called Akasha.

Akasha then turned Enkil into a vampire by drawing out nearly all of his blood and then allowing him to drink nearly all of hers.

The term " Those Who Must Be Kept " was coined by the vampire Marius referring to the fact that what befalls Akasha and Enkil also befalls all vampires ; if they are injured, so are their children, if they die, so do all vampires.

Against their advice, Akasha forces the witch sisters to seek answers from the spirits to countless shallow questions she asks, but the ensuing answers, some in the form of obscene gestures, ultimately enrage the Queen by confirming her inner emptiness -- " She had asked questions of the supernatural, a very foolish thing to do, and she had received answers which she could neither accept nor refute.

After one of these guardians tires of the task, he places Akasha and Enkil in the sun ; vampires worldwide are burned or destroyed as a result of all being linked by the spirit of Amel that still resides in Akasha.

In the book The Vampire Lestat it is specifically spelled out that Enkil and Akasha were made into vampires at the same time by a demonic infusion but it is later explained in Queen of the Damned that Akasha made Enkil into a vampire, after she was first made by demonic infusion, in order to save him from the wounds inflicted upon him by citizens of Kemet.
