Now, you probably share the widespread Western belief that the Lord Buddha is the most compassionate of the gods, much more so than Jehovah and Allah and the rest.

The fast is meant to allow Muslims to seek nearness to Allah, to express their gratitude to and dependence on him, atone for their past sins, and to remind them of the needy.

Allah, or God, is the center of Muslim belief.

The Qur ' an speaks of the oneness of God: " Allah has borne witness that there is no God but Him-and the angels, and those with knowledge also witness this.

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Surely, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my relatives ; and whoever earns good, We give him more of good therein ; surely Allah is Forgiving, Grateful.

" In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Say, In ( or with ) the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

In the beginning, after praising and glorifying Allah as Lord of the worlds, Kind, Merciful and Master of the Judgment Day, the believer submits: " Lord, You alone I worship and to You alone I turn for help, and the most urgent help that I need from You is to be guided to the Straight Way.

# In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

" In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Muhammad said: " If you ask Allah for Paradise, then ask him for Firdaus, for it is the highest part of Paradise, in the middle of Paradise, and from it spring the rivers of Paradise, and above it is the ( Mighty ) Throne of the Most Merciful.

And fear Allah, Verily Allah is Oft Returning, Merciful.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

The reference stated that Jabir said, " The Prophet ... returned from one of his battles, and thereupon told us, ' You have arrived with an excellent arrival, you have come from the Lesser Jihad to the Greater Jihad — the striving of a servant ( of Allah ) against his desires ( holy war ).
