Allan Dwan ( April 3, 1885 – December 28, 1981 ) was a pioneering Canadian-born American motion picture director, producer and screenwriter.

Fleming had been an auto mechanic and early aviator when his old friend Marshall Neilan recommended him to film director Allan Dwan as a good mechanic.

They quickly made friends with Hollywood insider ( and fellow Ivy Leaguer ) Allan Dwan, but Hawks landed his first important job when he used his family's wealth to loan money to studio head Jack Warner.
