Standard Oil Company ( Indiana ) was officially renamed Amoco Corporation in 1985.

In 1968, following that discovery, Indiana Standard acquired the Avisun Corporation and Patchogue-Plymouth, forming the Amoco Fabrics and Fibers Company.

The logo of Amoco Corporation ( formerly Standard Oil of Indiana ) prominently features a torch to commemorate the company's Indiana origins.

Previously, he sat on the Board of the Bank One Corporation, Amoco, British Petroleum and General Motors.

PROFS was originally developed by IBM in Dallas, in conjunction with Amoco.

Modern-day Exxon, Mobil, Atlantic Richfield, Chevron, Sohio, Amoco and Continental Oil all trace their ancestry to various parts of Standard Oil.

The Aon Center ( 200 East Randolph Street, formerly Amoco Building ) is a modern skyscraper in the Chicago Loop, Chicago, Illinois, United States, designed by architect firms Edward Durell Stone and The Perkins and Will partnership, and completed in 1974 as the Standard Oil Building.

Before this deal, Amoco was forced to depend on Standard Oil of New Jersey, a competitor, for its supplies.

Standard Oil of Indiana acquired Pan American in 1925, beginning John D. Rockefeller's association with the Amoco name.

Lead-free Amoco was introduced in the Indiana Standard marketing area in 1970.

By 1971, all the divisions of Indiana Standard bore the Amoco name including American Oil which was renamed Amoco Oil with American stations renamed Amoco stations.

By 1975, Amoco began phasing in the Amoco name in the old Indiana Standard sales territory.

In 1976 Amoco ( under the " Standard " name ) sponsored the Barney Oldfield Speedway attraction at Marriott's Great America theme park in Gurnee, Illinois.

But by 2001 BP announced that all Amoco service stations would either be closed or renamed to BP service stations, including the remaining stations still bearing the " Standard " name.

It combined the Standard torch with the Amoco oval.

In 1961, the torch and oval was redesigned with a flatter oval and a more contemporary torch design with the logo bearing the Standard or American name in the U. S. and the Amoco name outside the U. S.

This was used by Midwestern station owners who had the option of using the Amoco name ( more familiar in the East and South ) or using the more familiar Standard name.

Most surviving BP stations are kept so BP can continue holding the trademarks for Amoco and Standard.

It broke the monopoly into three dozen separate companies that competed with one another, including Standard Oil of New Jersey ( later known as Exxon and now ExxonMobil ), Standard Oil of Indiana ( Amoco ), Standard Oil Company of New York ( Mobil, again, later merged with Exxon to form ExxonMobil ), of California ( Chevron ), and so on.

In 1979 Cyprus Mines was purchased by Standard Oil Company of Indiana and it became a subsidiary of Amoco Minerals Company.

Following the amalgamation of Amoco ( which in turn was formerly Standard Oil of Indiana ) and Atlantic Richfield into British Petroleum, the name was shortened to BP in 2000.

While most oil companies were switching to leaded gasolines en masse during the mid-to-late 1920s, American Oil chose to continue marketing its premium-grade " Amoco-Gas " ( later Amoco Super-Premium ) as a lead-free gasoline by using aromatics rather than tetraethyllead to increase octane levels, decades before the environmental movement of the early 1970s led to more stringent auto emission controls which ultimately mandated the universal phase out of leaded gasoline.

The Amoco name continued to be used outside the U. S. and as a brand on certain American Oil products.

Concurrently, American Oil introduced in 1932 a logo which was the first to bear the name " Amoco ".

The quantity of oil spilled during accidents has ranged from a few hundred tons to several hundred thousand tons ( e. g., Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Atlantic Empress, Amoco Cadiz ).

Corporations like Standard Oil of Indiana ( Amoco ) made major contributions to CICS.

The majority of the CICS Terminal Control Program ( TCP-the heart of CICS ) and part of OS / 360 had to be laboriously redesigned and rewritten by Amoco Production Company in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Amoco also issued for a time its own co-branded Diners Club cards called American Torch Club, and Sun Oil Company issued its version called Sun Diner Club Card.

Through the 1998 acquisition of the global operations of Amoco ( formerly Standard Oil of Indiana ) by British Petroleum, BP Canada acquired the assets of former major Canadian oil and gas companies, which included ' Dome Petroleum ' and ' Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Company '.

The efforts of the committee were guided by its charter, the successful creation of which is credited to the coordinating efforts of Susan P. Ennis, a representative of Amoco Production Company.

Only three 1720 systems were ever built: one for the Amoco oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana ; one for the Socal oil refinery in El Segundo, California ; and one for E. I. du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware.

The current BP operations in Canada, mainly as a producer of natural gas, is through the 1998 worldwide merger of Amoco ( formerly Standard Oil of Indiana ) with British Petroleum.

The company continued to adjust to the trends, in the late 1950s operating for the first 15 years the then-new landmark Illinois Tollway " Oases " which were built above the Interstate 294 highway in the Chicago suburbs by the Standard Oil of Indiana ( Amoco ).

Employers contributing to the population explosion of the 1980s and 1990s included: Bell Labs and Western Electric ( now Alcatel-Lucent ), Amoco Research Laboratories, Nalco, Nicor, and Edward Hospital.

Belcher ( Coastal Fuels ), Standard Oil ( Chevron ) and American Oil ( Amoco ) follow suit.

Yergin's history has 61 pages of notes and a bibliography of 26 pages that lists as sources not only 700 books, articles, and dissertations, 60 government documents, 28 " data sources ", more than 34 manuscript collections, fifteen government archives, eight oral histories, and four oil company archives ( Amoco, Chevron, Gulf, and Royal Dutch Shell ), but also 80 personal interviews with key individuals like James Schlesinger and Armand Hammer.
