Shortly after beginning of the war in July 1950, SAC dispatched ten nuclear-capable bombers to Andersen AFB on Guam under orders from the Joint Chiefs.

Strategic Air Command in the United Kingdom was among the command's largest overseas concentrations of forces, with additional forces at bases in North Africa during the 1950s and 1960s in addition to SAC bomber, tanker, and / or reconnaissance aircraft assets at the former Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and at Andersen AFB, Guam, RAF Mildenhall, United Kingdom and the former NAS Keflavik, Iceland through the 1990s.

From March to October 1967 the 22d wing was reduced to a small " rear-echelon " non-tactical organization with all tactical resources and most support resources loaned to SAC organizations involved in combat operations in Southeast Asia from U-Tapao, Thailand and Andersen AFB, Guam.

However, the tanker aircraft and aircrews participated in the " Young Tiger " TDY effort, and the bomber aircrews went through RTU ( Replacement Training Unit ) training to fly B-52Ds out of Andersen AFB, Guam and U-Tapao RTAFB, Thailand and were active participants in many of the notable campaigns that took place in Southeast Asia such as Arc Light.

The wing ’ s B-52s were not far behind, deploying to Andersen AFB, Guam for Operation ARC LIGHT and the bombing campaign against enemy strongholds in Vietnam.

Clark was served regularly by cargo and passenger flights to and from Andersen AFB, Guam ; Kadena AB, Japan ; Diego Garcia ; Jakarta, Indonesia ; Bangkok and Ubon Thailand ; and Saigon, Vietnam ( until 1975 ).

Then in April 1970, SAC moved the Eighth without personnel or equipment to Andersen AFB Guam, absorbing resources of the 3d Air Division.

In September 1966, the wing deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam and Kadena Air Base, Okinawa.

Headquarters Second Air Force was inactivated on January 1, 1975, being replaced by Headquarters Eighth Air Force which was transferred to Barksdale after being located at Andersen AFB, Guam for five years in charge of SAC strategic operations for the Vietnam War.

Andersen Air Force Base ( AFB ) is a United States Air Force ( USAF ) base located approximately northeast of Yigo in the United States territory of Guam.

The host unit at Andersen AFB is the 36th Wing ( 36 WG ), assigned to the Pacific Air Forces Thirteenth Air Force.
