In 1536, four survivors — Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, Alonso del Castillo Maldonado, Andrés Dorantes de Carranza, and his enslaved Moor Estevanico — finally managed to rejoin Spanish countrymen in present-day Mexico.

Andrés Manuel del Río Fernández ( 10 November 1764 — 23 March 1849 ) was a Spanish – Mexican scientist and naturalist who discovered the chemical element vanadium.

Andrés Manuel del Río died at 84 in 1849, after a long and productive academic career.
