The Angel Moroni () is, in Mormonism, an angel that visited Joseph Smith, Jr. on numerous occasions, beginning on September 21, 1823.

Millard F. Malin's angel, which was placed on the Los Angeles California Temple in 1953 ( dedicated 1956 ) is known as the second Angel Moroni statue.

Avard Fairbanks sculpted the third Angel Moroni statue which was placed on the Washington D. C. Temple, dedicated in 1974.

Karl Quilter sculpted his first Angel Moroni in 1978.

These statues were designed to reduce the cost and weight of the previous Angel Moroni statues, in order to become a standard part of the temple architecture.

After the letter had been purchased for the church and become public knowledge, Apostle Dallin Oaks asserted to Mormon educators that the words " white salamander " could be reconciled with Joseph Smith's Angel Moroni because in the 1820s, the word salamander might also refer to a mythical being thought to be able to live in fire, and a " being that is able to live in fire is a good approximation of the description Joseph Smith gave of the Angel Moroni.

The LDS Church has constructed a monument that is topped with a statue of the Angel Moroni on the top of the hill, and there is a visitor's interpretative center at the base of the hill.

An Angel Moroni statue is located near NY-21.

The capstone — the granite sphere which holds the statue of the Angel Moroni — was laid on April 6, 1892, by means of an electric motor and switch operated personally by Wilford Woodruff, the church's fourth President, thus completing work on the temple's exterior.
