Prince of Israel, Prince of the Angels, and Prince of Light are titles given to the Archangel Michael.

After dissolving Swans, Gira formed Angels of Light, continued his work with Young God Records and Jarboe continued her solo work.

He is the main force behind the New York City musical group Swans and fronts Angels of Light.

However, Gira's interest in art is known to have affected his music ; The Angels of Light song " Inner Female " is a study of Francis Bacon.

After dissolving Swans in 1997 Gira released a solo album under his own name and began a new musical direction with Angels of Light, which are a quieter, more acoustic-based group than Swans.

Gira founded his own record label, Young God Records, which has released albums from such artists as Devendra Banhart, Mi and L ' au, and Akron / Family as well as Swans, The Angels of Light and The Body Lovers ' back catalogues.

Akron / Family served as Gira's backing band during the recording of and touring for The Angels of Light's 2005 album, The Angels of Light Sing ' Other People '.

Gira has spoken of his decision to shift his focus from The Angels of Light to Swans as a move based on impassivity.

He has stated, " I had been doing this band Angels of Light for thirteen years, and had reached a kind of impassivity with that, sorta like I had reached an impassivity with Swans when I initially stopped it.

The single " Shining Light " was released in January 2001, followed by the number one album Free All Angels in April.

Angels of Light are an experimental group that was formed circa 1998 by singer / guitarist Michael Gira after he disbanded Swans, the group he had founded in 1982.

The first two live performances of what would become the Angels of Light ( the Tonic / Bowery Ballroom benefit shows ) were billed as " Michael Gira with guests ".

All Angels of Light albums have been released on Michael Gira's label Young God Records.

The label's original intent was to facilitate the release of Swans music, but in recent years it has grown to host Gira's current band, the Angels of Light, as well as a number of other unique bands and artists, including: Akron / Family, Devendra Banhart, Lisa Germano, Ulan Bator, and Mi and L ' au.

They attracted a particularly strong following among local chapters of the Hells Angels and got a recurring gig at one of the bikers ' favorite venues, the Chateau Liberté in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and they continued playing the Chateau through the summer of 1975 ( although these concerts did not include all band members, and they were unannounced and of a completely impromptu nature ).

Highlights include guest-starring as an Algerian secret agent on the trail of Islamic extremists in the controversial episode " Nest of Angels " of the British television show Spooks ( known as MI-5 in the US ) in 2003.
