We learn many details concerning those in the vicinity of Antioch from Chrysostom's writings.

Alexios captured Isaac at Stagira in Macedonia, put out his eyes, and thenceforth kept him a close prisoner, though he had been redeemed by him from captivity at Antioch and loaded with honours.

He came from Antioch and served under Constantius II and was probably appointed to ensure that nobody with western associations was serving in Britain during a time of mistrust, rebellion and suppression symbolised by the brutal acts of the imperial notary Paulus Catena.

The term epískopos was not from the earliest times clearly distinguished from the term presbýteros (" elder ", " senior ", nowadays used to signify a priest ), but the term was already clearly used in the sense of the order or office of bishop, distinct from that of priest in the writings of Ignatius of Antioch ( died c. 108 ), and sources from the middle of the 2nd century undoubtedly set forth that all the chief centres of Christianity recognized and had the office of bishop, using a form of organization that remained universal until the Protestant Reformation.

Returning from this first missionary journey to Antioch, they were again sent up to Jerusalem to consult with the church there regarding the relation of Gentiles to the church ( Acts 15: 2 ; Galatians 2: 1 ).

It is more likely that the epistle was written some time before the Jerusalem council, and that teachers came from Jerusalem to Antioch teaching the need for it after Paul wrote his epistle to the Galatians, churches from the first missionary journey, addressing this issue.

After they had returned to Antioch from the Jerusalem council and after spending some time there ( 15: 35 ), Paul asked Barnabas to accompany him on another journey ( 15: 36 ).

Patriarch Amalric and Patriarch of Antioch Aimery of Limoges were unable to attend, and William and the other bishops did not have sufficient weight to persuade Pope Alexander III of the need for a new crusade.

William was, however, sent by Alexander as an ambassador to Emperor Manuel, and Manuel then sent him on a mission to the Principality of Antioch.

William does not mention exactly what happened during these embassies, but he probably discussed the Byzantine alliance with Jerusalem, and Manuel's protectorate over Antioch, where, due to pressure from Rome and Jerusalem, the emperor was forced to give up his attempts to restore a Greek patriarch.

His father, William David Chappelle III, was a professor at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

He was the last direct legitimate male descendant of Raymond of Antioch, an illegitimate son of William IX of Aquitaine.

In September 1101, his entire army was destroyed by the Seljuk Turks at Heraclea ; William himself barely escaped, and, according to Orderic Vitalis, he reached Antioch with only six surviving companions.

William allied himself with Tancred, Prince of Galilee, at the time Regent of the Principality of Antioch, while and Bertrand asked Baldwin I of Jerusalem to intervene.

The stained glass windows in the south wall, which are by Lawrence Lee and date from 1949 to 1955, represent lost churches associated with the parish: St Magnus and his ruined church of Egilsay, St Margaret of Antioch with her lost church in New Fish Street ( where the Monument to the Great Fire now stands ), St Michael with his lost church of Crooked Lane ( demolished to make way for the present King William Street ) and St Thomas Becket with his chapel on Old London Bridge.

It later opened an office at 2115 ' S ' St. in Washington, D. C. William Birenbaum, later provost at the New School and president of Antioch College, was an early leader of the Association.

William J. Holloway, then a student at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio created a 71-minute film adaptation of the novel in 1970.
