Columba became a pupil at the monastic school at Clonard Abbey, situated on the River Boyne in modern County Meath.

It is the last bridging point on the River Boyne before it enters the Irish Sea.

Boann or Boand ( modern spelling: Bóinn ) is the Irish mythology goddess of the River Boyne, a river in Leinster, Ireland.

As told in the metrical Dindshenchas, Boann created the River Boyne.

Boann challenged the power of the well by walking around it counter-clockwise ; this caused the waters to surge up violently and rush down to the sea, creating the River Boyne.

His wife was Boann, goddess of the River Boyne, who according to myth developed a great passion for the Dagda.

The overflowing well is a common motif in local Gaelic creation tales-as seen in the goddess Boann's similar creation of the River Boyne in Ireland.
