British Standards are the standards produced by BSI Group which is incorporated under a Royal Charter ( and which is formally designated as the National Standards Body ( NSB ) for the UK ).

From 2001 until December 2005, the Linguasphere Observatory was actively involved in collaboration with the British Standards Institution BSI Group and with ISO / TC 37in the design and development of a four-letter ( alpha-4 ) code covering-potentially-every recorded language variety in the world.

BS 7799 was a standard originally published by BSI Group ( BSI ) in 1995.

Although most of the Hodgson Report was rejected at the time as being premature, within a decade and a half changing patterns in British trade meant that in 1963 a poll by the British Standards Institute ( BSI ) revealed that the majority of its members favoured a transition to the metric system.

Once published by BSI a PAS has all the functionality of a British Standard for the purposes of creating schemes such as management systems and product benchmarks as well as codes of practice.

However, BSI makes standards available to these libraries only under licence restrictions which forbid loan, inter-library loan, open-shelf access, and copying of more than 10 % of a document by library users.

IEC standards are also being adopted as harmonized standards by other certifying bodies such as BSI ( Great Britain ), CSA ( Canada ), UL & ANSI / INCITS ( USA ), SABS ( South Africa ), SAI ( Australia ), SPC / GB ( China ) and DIN ( Germany ).

The Standard Pascal Model Implementation was also based on this compiler, having been adapted, by Welsh and Hay at Manchester University in 1984, to check rigorously for conformity to the BSI 6192 / ISO 7185 Standard and to generate code for a portable abstract machine.

This curve, which came out of work done by the BBC Research Department, and was standardised by the CCIR and later adopted by many other standards bodies ( IEC, BSI /) and,, is maintained by the ITU.

The standards behind carbon labelling are now formally recognised through the PAS 2050 developed by the Carbon Trust in conjunction with BSI and Defra.
