Snow Geese are visitors to the British Isles where they are seen regularly among flocks of Barnacle, Brent and Greenland White-fronted geese.

Barnacle Geese breed mainly on the Arctic islands of the North Atlantic.

Occasionally, a wild bird will appear in the Northeastern United States or Canada, but care must be taken to separate out wild birds from escaped individuals, as Barnacle Geese are popular waterfowl with collectors.

According to Sveriges ornitologiska förening the geese began breeding in Sweden in 71, and according to Skansen it was 40 years ago, more or less, when the entire population of Barnacle Geese left in the autumn to return in spring, soon after they began breeding in the wild.

The question of the nature of Barnacle Geese also came up as a matter of Jewish dietary law in the Halakha, and Rabbeinu Tam ( 1100 – 71 ) determined that they were kosher ( even if born of trees ) and should be slaughtered following the normal prescriptions for birds.

It is a rare vagrant to Great Britain and other western European areas, where it is sometimes found with flocks of Brent or Barnacle Geese.

Feral Barnacle Geese are found there ; a wild, ringed, Barnacle Goose was found in March 2011 — it was ringed at WWT Caerlaverock in Dumfrieshire, Scotland on 8 February 1999.

In the days before it was realised that birds migrate, it was thought that Barnacle Geese, Branta leucopsis, developed from this crustacean, since they were never seen to nest in temperate Europe, hence the English names " goose barnacle ", " barnacle goose " and the scientific name Lepas anserifera ( Latin anser = " goose ").

Species Seen: Black Woodpecker, Short-toed Treecreeper, Geese ( Barnacle, White-fronted and Bean ), Shore Larks, Snow Buntings, Smew, Fieldfare, Common Buzzards, Long-eared Owl.

Escaped or feral specimens are encountered frequently, usually in the company of other feral geese such as Canada Goose, Greylag Goose and Barnacle Goose.

Almost the entire Svalbard population of Barnacle Goose overwinters in the Solway Firth area, with many of the birds often at Caerlaverock for part or all of the winter ; their protection by the reserve has enabled the population to recover from just 500 birds in the 1940s, to over 25, 000 now.

By this time, Billy Currie and Dave Formula had also left the band ( though they received a " special thanks " credit on the album sleeve for their input ), leaving only Strange and Egan from the original line-up along with newer musicians Steve & Gary Barnacle and Andy Barnett.

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's TV show and method of fighting crime are based on the campy 60's Batman TV show, their secret headquarters, the Mermalair, is a parody of the Batcave, and their vehicle, the " Invisible Boat-Mobile " is a parody of both the Batmobile and Wonder Woman's invisible jet.

It is unknown whether Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy imprison all their enemies in this manner.

They built the first Children's Playhouse west of the Mississippi River in a barn on their property, which they named the Barnacle.

Joyce modelled the character upon his wife, Nora Barnacle ; indeed, the day upon which the novel is set — June 16, 1904, now called Bloomsday — is that of their first date.

For example, the idea that a variety of bird known as the Barnacle Goose emerged from a crustacean known as the Goose Barnacle, had implications on the practice of fasting during Lent.

The Barnacle Goose is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds ( AEWA ) applies.

Based on these legends — indeed, the legends may have been invented for this purpose — some Irish clerics considered Barnacle Goose flesh to be acceptable fast day food, a practice that was criticized by a contemporary Welsh author:

Both albums featured Pete Thoms and Gary Barnacle on brass and woodwind.

Rob Kidd wrote an ongoing book series entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow, following a teenage Sparrow and his crew on the Barnacle as they battle sirens, mermaids and adult pirates while looking for various treasures.

Barnacle Bill ( 1957 ) follows Captain Ambrose who, after leaving the navy, buys a run-down pier on the English seaside.

He soon built a home, the Barnacle, on land on the mainland in Coconut Grove that he bought from John Frow, keeper of the Cape Florida Light and Fowey Rocks Light.

It is unclear how Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy can survive in Bikini Bottom, as they are some of the only true humanoid characters on the show ; an origin special, however, explains that Mermaid Man was given a special starfish covering his nose that allowed him to do so.

* 1904 – Irish author James Joyce begins a relationship with Nora Barnacle and subsequently uses the date to set the actions for his novel Ulysses ; this date is now traditionally called " Bloomsday ".

** James Joyce walks to Ringsend with Nora Barnacle ; he later uses this date ( Bloomsday ) as the setting for his novel Ulysses.

Joyce chose the date as it was the date of his first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle ; they walked to the Dublin suburb of Ringsend.
