Harry Barris, one of Paul Whiteman's " The Rhythm Boys ," along with Bing Crosby, scatted on several songs, including " Mississippi Mud ," which Barris wrote in 1927.

The Gong Show eventually had three later revivals, one under Barris ' title ( with Don Bleu ) in 1988-89, one on The Game Show Network in 2000 called Extreme Gong and another with current format owner Sony Pictures Television ( with Dave Attell ) in 2008.

Gong Show and Dating Game also ended otherwise successful syndicated runs in 1980 because of the Three's a Crowd and Newlywed controversies, likely because stations were fearful of community and advertiser retribution on account of Barris ' reputation.

After a week-long trial of The Newlywed Game on ABC in 1984 ( with Dating Game emcee Jim Lange ), Barris produced the daily Newlywed Game ( titled The New Newlywed Game ) in syndication from 1985 to 1989, with original host Eubanks ( and in 1988, comedian Paul Rodriguez ).

After the shows ' runs ended, Sony Corporation acquired Guber-Peters Entertainment ( formerly Barris Industries ) for $ 200 million on September 29, 1989, a day after Sony Corporation of Japan acquired Columbia Pictures Entertainment.

In a 2010 interview on NBC's The Today Show, Barris said he disagreed with the " tough love " philosophy of dealing with addicted children, and that he regretted having allowed Della to leave home at age 16.

Barris ' company often builds replicas of non-Barris designed vehicles from other TV series, including The Monkees ( Monkeemobile ), Starsky and Hutch ( Ford Torino ), Power Rangers ( Rad-Bug, Turbo Vehicles, and SPD Cars ), and Knight Rider ( KITT ).

Famed Hollywood car customizer George Barris made two much more accurate replicas for the 1971 television series Bearcats !.

Barris joined in with the eccentricity of the format, using unusual props, dressing in colorful and somewhat unusual clothing ( such as the occasional hat pulled over his head, if not his eyes ), he became yet another performer of the show, and for many, quite a cult hero.

Jeffries worked on the design and initial fabrication for the Batmobile, using a 1959 Cadillac, but when the studio wanted the car faster than he could deliver, he turned it back to George Barris.

With the short notice, Barris thought the Futura might work well, and using Jeffries initial car, decided that its unusual winged shape would be an ideal starting point for the Batmobile.

Alex Barris says in his second book that the absence of non-Canadian guests after 1979 resulted from budget cuts for CBC Television that ruled out travel expenses.

He was replaced by Charlie O ' Donnell, who Barris had signed away from Barry & Enright Productions, in 1986.

The crime fighting car ' Black Beauty ' ( 268 )-a George Barris customised 1965 Chrysler Imperial Crown sedan, included an operational satellite launcher inside the boot and a rocket fired from behind the grill, and was featured in the American television series The Green Hornet.

The ' Monkeemobile ' ( 277 ) issued in December was a Dean Jeffries 1966 Pontiac GTO, again customised by George Barris, taken from the American television series The Monkees which featured miniature models of the band sitting in the car.

The Dating Game is an ABC television show that first aired on December 20, 1965 and was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s.

In all other Season 1 episodes Mannix drove a 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado roadster " customized " by George Barris, builder of TV's Batmobile from the 1960s Batman ABC series, since the producers wanted a convertible and Oldsmobile never produced an open-topped Toronado.
