, commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was a school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught.

The early intention was for the Bauhaus to be a combined architecture school, crafts school, and academy of the arts.

Dada's goal of critically rethinking design was similar to Bauhaus, but whereas the earlier Dada movement was an aesthetic approach, the Bauhaus was literally a school, an institution that combined a former school of industrial design with a school of arts and crafts.

Bauhaus combined a number of influences ( punk, glam rock, even funk and dub ) to create a gloomy, but very passionate sound which appealed to many looking for something new in the wake of punk's collapse.

Many consider Frank Lloyd Wright's principle movement of organic architecture combined with Arts and Crafts as an American jumping point for the aesthetic of Mid-Century Modern, however one need only visit a Wright house's interior to realize the Mid-Century modern movement in the US was really an American reflection of the International and Bauhaus movements – including the works of Gropuis, Le Corbusier, and Mies Van Der Rohe.

The album's lead single, " She's in Parties ", reached number 26 on the charts and earned Bauhaus their third and final Top of the Pops appearance.

While studying at the Bauhaus, Moholy ’ s teaching in diverse media — including painting, sculpture, photography, photomontage and metal — had a profound influence on a number of his students, including Marianne Brandt.

In the 1960s it split into a number of different groups, including the Situationist Bauhaus, the Antinational and the Second Situationist International.

In 1988, the act debuted on the British charts with the song " Bauhaus ( Push the Beat )", and the following year with " Helyom Halib " which peaked at number 11.

A number of Constructivists would teach or lecture at the Bauhaus schools in Germany, and some of the VKhUTEMAS teaching methods were adopted and developed there.

Such influences can be overstated: Gropius himself did not share these radical views, and said that Bauhaus was entirely apolitical.

The Nazi movement, from nearly the start, denounced the Bauhaus for its " degenerate art ", and the Nazi regime was determined to crack down on what it saw as the foreign, probably Jewish influences of " cosmopolitan modernism.

Curiously, however, some Bauhaus influences lived on in Nazi Germany.

Many buildings in Weimar today have influences from the Bauhaus period.

The Bauhaus Museum, on Theaterplatz, offers an exhibition of works from the Bauhaus period in Weimar and screens an informative film about the movement's influences on Weimar city.

One film critic described the numerous influences: " From his infelicitous name to his physical clumsiness, Norville Barnes is a Preston Sturges hero trapped in a Frank Capra story, and never should that twain meet, especially not in a world that seems to have been created by Fritz Lang — the mechanistic monstrousness of the mailroom contrasted with the Bauhaus gigantism of the corporate offices perfectly matches the boss-labour split in Metropolis ( 1927 ).

Other artists that have been identified as influences on shoegazing include The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Hüsker Dü, Spacemen 3, The Chameleons, The Cure, Bauhaus, Galaxie 500, and The Smiths.

From the time of van Doesburg's association with Bauhaus, other influences started playing a role.

It incorporated European influences from the constructivists and the Bauhaus movement, and its intensity and smallness of scale were typically European.

This was based mainly on what the Bauhaus and others were seen as representing, like foreign influences or the decadence of the Weimar Republic.

They were also influenced by various post-punk and gothic rock bands, including Public Image Ltd., Bauhaus, Joy Division, and especially Killing Joke.

László Moholy-Nagy, another former Bauhaus teacher, also became involved with Isokon when he arrived in Britain from Germany in May 1935 and designed promotional material, including sales leaflets, showcards and the logo of Isokon firm itself, which was an outline of curved plywood chair.

Knoll also received a bachelor's degree in architecture from Armour Institute ( now Illinois Institute of Technology ) in 1941 and briefly worked with leaders of the Bauhaus movement, including Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, and the American modernist, Wallace K. Harrison.
