After 1968 Beşiktaş ' performance declined greatly, finishing in 9th, 11th, 5th, 6th many times, while Trabzonspor, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray continued their success however Beşiktaş had shown a good performance to put a stop to their success.

In late December 2010, completely out of favour with manager Emery, Fernandes was loaned to Beşiktaş J. K. in the Süper Lig until the end of the season, being officially presented on 3 January 2011.

Between 1921 and 1939, Galatasaray SK and the two other major football clubs of Istanbul, Beşiktaş JK and Fenerbahçe SK, played their matches at the historic Taksim Stadium on Taksim Square, which was located inside the courtyard of the Ottoman era Taksim Artillery Barracks ( Taksim Topçu Kışlası ) built by Sultan Abdülmecid I in the 1840s ; the surrounding walls of which were transformed into tribunes.

According to one story, there was a Byzantine church where Beşiktaş now is with the name Kounopetra, Greek for " stone cradle.

According to another story, a cleric from an Aya Menas ( Saint Menas ) Church where Beşiktaş now is returned from a pilgrimage to Jerusalem with a cradle-shaped stone used in the baptism of Jesus and placed it in the church.

The club's 33, 000-seat BJK İnönü Stadium is on the Bosphorus seafront southwest of the center of Beşiktaş, and on match days the area is very crowded with football fans.

Today, it is widely accepted by the residents of the municipality that the most significant resident of Beşiktaş was Zübeyde Hanım, the mother of the Turkish national hero Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who lived in the old quarter at the core of Beşiktaş municipality, literally right next to the then headquarters of the Beşiktaş J. K ..

Apodaca played as part of the Turkish club Beşiktaş Cola Turka in that country's national championship and the ULEB Cup.
