Beach nourishment is common for major beach cities around the world ; however the beaches that have been nourished can still appear quite natural and often many visitors are unaware of the works undertaken to support the health of the beach.

Beach nourishment is a problem worldwide and receives large amounts of attention due to the millions of dollars spent yearly in order to keep beaches beautified for tourists, e. g., in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Beach nourishment — also referred to as beach replenishment or sand replenishment — describes a process by which sediment ( usually sand ) lost through longshore drift or erosion is replaced from sources outside of the eroding beach.

Beach nourishment is typically part of a larger coastal defense scheme.

In " Bonus mode ", a set of three larger games that do not appear in usual play can be accessed ; this involves a card-based board game (" Card party "), as well as Beach volleyball and Ice hockey.

The renourishment program involved dredging sand from an offshore borrow area, pumping it onto the beach and shaping the sand into an approved beach face and dune template in front of the communities of Corneille Estates, Davis Park, Dunewood, Fair Harbor, Fire Island Pines, Fire Island Summer Club, Lonelyville, Ocean Bay Park, Ocean Beach, Saltaire, and Seaview.

Beach sand colour depends on which geologic layer is exposed ; there are beaches with sand or pebbles made of solidified lava of various colours: the Red Beach, the Black Beach, the White Beach, etc.

Beach volleyball, a variation of the game played on sand and with only two players per team, became a FIVB-endorsed variation in 1987 and was added to the Olympic program at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Some of the more biologically important wetland areas include ( going downsteam from Pembroke ), the Westmeath sand dune / wetland complex, Mississippi Snye, Breckenridge Nature Reserve, Shirleys Bay, Ottawa Beach / Andrew Haydon Park, Petrie Island, the Duck Islands and Greens Creek.

For some time, there were beer parties every Friday, and an annual Convex Beach Party ( where a truck load of sand would be dumped on the parking lot to simulate a beach in Richardson, Texas ).

* Pebbly Beach, one of the park's major attractions, lies between two headlands and forms a sand beach used for bathing and surfing, followed by hilly grassland towards the bush.

* Browns Beach Campground has ten sites nestled amongst natural vegetation and bordered by a steep sand dune.

The southern border of the Lincoln National Park starts with sand dunes from Mary Ellis Wreck Beach to Wanna along Sleaford Bay, before changing to limestone cliffs further east along Encounter Bay.

The Fraser Island section encompasses almost all of the world's largest sand island, Fraser Island, situated north of Rainbow Beach, covering 56, 000 ha.

For 31 years, Imperial Beach played home to the U. S. Open Sand Castle competition, the largest sand castle competition in the United States, drawing in approximately 325, 000 people.

The southern end of Pismo Beach runs alongside sand dunes, which are followed by eucalyptus trees which attract thousands of migrating monarch butterflies every November through February.

Adjacent to the Casino, Gulfport Beach offers an attractive swath of sand on Boca Ciega Bay for swimming, sunbathing and family gatherings.

One mile from the town center is Singing Beach, so named because the sand comprising the beach squeaks when walked upon ( see Singing sand ).

The ship SS Kwinana was wrecked on Cockburn Sound in 1922 and blown onto Kwinana Beach.

Lyonne was arrested in August 2001 for driving under the influence of alcohol after she ran her rented automobile onto a Miami Beach sidewalk, hitting a road sign and causing minor damages.
