Behavior ( or behaviour ) refers to the actions or reactions of an organism or object, usually in relation to its environment.

Several academic bodies exist to support behaviour genetic research, including the International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society, Behavior Genetics Association, the International Society for Psychiatric Genetics, and the International Society for Twin Studies.

His 1948 publication, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male ( the first of the Kinsey Reports ) was one of the first recorded works that tried to scientifically address and investigate sexual behaviour in humans.

The World Association for Behavior Analysis offers a certification in behaviour therapy.

Internationally, most behaviour therapists find a core intellectual home in the International Association for Behavior Analysis ( ABAI ).

Likewise, the school of psychology known as behaviorism ( see Verbal Behavior ( 1957 ) by B. F. Skinner ) puts forth the point of view that language is a behavior shaped by conditioned response, hence it is learned.

It can also register the delivery of a conditioned reinforcer, such as an LED ( see Jackson & Hackenberg 1996 in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior for example ) signal as a " token ".

In addition, behaviorism sought to create a comprehensive model of the stream of behavior from the birth of the human to his death ( see Behavior analysis of child development ).

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board ( BACB ) Guidelines for Responsible Conduct state that voluntariness by the client or their surrogate is a necessary component of any behavior plan, and clients or families have the right to terminate a particular intervention if they see fit, including aversive treatments.

Violence-prevention efforts can also be usefully directed at developing anti-bullying programs, helping teachers with classroom-management strategies, applying behavioral strategies such as the Good Behavior Game, implementing curricular innovations such as the Second Step syllabus, developing programs to strengthen families ( see below ), and implementing programs aimed at enhancing the social and academic skills of at-risk students ( see below ).

Behavior analysts generally viewed the criticism as largely off point ( for a behavior analytic response to Chomsky, see MacCorquodale ( 1970 ), On Chomsky's Review Of Skinner's Verbal Behavior ), but it is undeniable that psychology turned its attention elsewhere and the review was very influential in helping to produce the rise of cognitive psychology.

Albert Ellis ( September 27, 1913 – July 24, 2007 ) was an American psychologist who in 1955 developed Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy ( REBT ).

Many schools of psychological thought became influenced by Albert Ellis, including Rational Behavior Therapy created by a student of his, Maxie Clarence Maultsby, Jr .. Ellis had such an impact that in a 1982 survey, American and Canadian clinical psychologists and counsellors ranked him ahead of Freud when asked to name the figure who had exerted the greatest influence on their field.

In early 2011 the book Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy by Dr Albert Ellis and his wife Dr Debbie Joffe Ellis was released by the American Psychological Association.

Jean Philippe Rushton ( born December 3, 1943 ) is a Canadian psychology professor at the University of Western Ontario who is most widely known for his work on racial group differences, such as research on race and intelligence, race and crime, and the application of r / K selection theory to humans in his book Race, Evolution and Behavior ( 1995 ).

In a 1995 review of Rushton's Race, Evolution and Behavior, anthropologist and population geneticist Henry Harpending expressed doubt as to whether all of Rushton's data fit the r / K model he proposed, but nonetheless praised the book for its proposing of a theoretical model that makes testable predictions about differences between human groups.

Behavior regarded as opportunist in one culture may not be so regarded in another because of differences in norms of moral propriety.
