Berkshire Cotton Mills, Adams, Mass.

In 1929 the Valley Falls Company merged with the Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing Company established in 1889, in Adams, Massachusetts.

He was a friend of the Plunkett brothers ( founders in 1889 of the Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing Company ), and of the textile industry generally.

In Berkshire, a successful skirmish at the Battle of Englefield on 31 December 870 was followed by a severe defeat at the siege and Battle of Reading by Ivar's brother Halfdan Ragnarsson on 5 January 871 ; then, four days later, Alfred won a brilliant victory at the Battle of Ashdown on the Berkshire Downs, possibly near Compton or Aldworth.

Cheam was the original home of Cheam School which was formed in Whitehall in 1645 and later occupied Tabor Court from 1719 until 1934 when the school moved to Berkshire.

The Regimental Depot of the 49th of foot, ( later the Royal Berkshire Regt ), was established at Reading and named Brock Barracks in his memory.

Born in Lansdowne Road, Bedford, as Apsley George Benet Cherry, the son and eldest child of Major General Apsley Cherry ( later Cherry-Garrard ) of Denford Park in Berkshire ( later of Lamer Park in Hertfordshire where he became High Sheriff ) and his wife, Evelyn Edith ( née Sharpin ), daughter of Henry Wilson Sharpin of Bedford.

Slough Secondary School was the name of the first major selective secondary school in Slough ( originally Buckinghamshire but now Berkshire ).
